Job summary

IMA Automation North America in Elgin, IL is seeking an electrical automation technician with on-site support duties. You will read schematics, troubleshoot power and control circuits, and contribute to design updates while complying with safety requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of Rockwell RSLogix/Studio5000 or Siemens software; CAD tools.
  • Experience with Allen Bradley or Siemens PLCs, HMIs, and servo controls.
  • Experience with Cognex and Keyence vision systems.
  • Robots from Epson, Fanuc and Staubli.
  • Strong writing, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to travel up to 75% domestically and internationally.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot electrical power and control circuits up to 600VAC and 24VDC.
  • Troubleshoot cam, servo, and air stations; test and electrical devices.
  • Debug software issues related to PLCs, HMIs, vision cameras, robotics, SCADA.
  • Replace/install and configure electrical components in automated control systems.
  • Identify and release spare parts for supply chain.
  • Research and specify components for new designs.
  • Create/update wiring schematics, BOMs, panel layouts; release packages.
  • Participate in installations and service calls; interface with customers.
  • Provide technical support to customers, remote and on-site.
  • Support software validation requirements and update docs.
  • Book service travel arrangements.
  • Travel up to 50–75% of the time.

Job Summary

Elgin, Illinois and on-site customer support of automation equipment and software. Read electrical schematics for automated control systems, troubleshoot electrical circuits, release components for purchase and update drawings. Troubleshoot hardware and software for automated equipment as well as program development while complying with internal and customer safety requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot single and 3 phase AC power circuits (up to 600VAC), DC control circuits (typically 24VDC), PLC I/O cards and motion controllers.
  • Troubleshoot control systems for cam, servo, and air operated stations, along with test and electrical devices.
  • Problem-solve, debug software issues related to PLCs, HMIs, vision cameras, robotic systems, database & SCADA systems.
  • Replace/install and configure electrical components in automated control systems.
  • Identify and release spare parts for supply chain to purchase.
  • Research and specify appropriate purchased and preferred components for new designs.
  • Create/update electrical wiring schematics, flow diagrams, panel layouts, Bill of Materials, organize release packages.
  • Participate in installations and service calls, interfacing with customers and personnel from other IMA sites.
  • Provide technical support to external and internal customers, both remote and on-site.
  • Support software validation requirements and update documentation as needed.
  • Book service travel arrangements.
  • Ability to travel up to 50–75% of the time.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Competencies / Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience with automation equipment.
  • Technical understanding of pharmaceutical / biotechnology unit operations a plus.
  • Fundamental understanding of Rockwell RS Logix/Studio5000 or Siemens development software, Schematic Capture Software, AutoCAD or Equivalent CAD environments.
  • Strong experience with Allen Bradley or Siemens PLC’s, HMI’s and Servo control.
  • Experience with Cognex and Keyence vision systems.
  • Epson, Fanuc and Staubli robots.
  • Strong technical writing, communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Ability to travel 75% of the time, both domestically and internationally.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a cross-functional team environment.
Preferred Competencies / Skills
  • Strong knowledge of computer programs such as Windows, Excel, Word, Outlook and Project.
  • Experience with AutoCAD or other CAD environments.
  • Knowledge of inspection and measuring tools such as scales, calipers, micrometers, multi-meters, dB meters.
  • Ability to use good judgment to incorporate IMA Automation, USA standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a cross functional team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbally and written.
  • Ability to prioritize, plan and organize work.
Working Conditions
  • Manufacturing facilities, medical device and automotive.
  • Standard office environment. Environment will vary based on location of work.
  • May involve extended hours during peak periods, special assignments or production-line down conditions.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit, stand, and work on a computer for extended periods.
  • Comfortable working around industrial machinery, electrical systems, and manufacturing environments.
  • Lifting (up to 50 lbs.) may occasionally be required.
  • Be able to stand or sit for more than 4 hours.
