Job summary

The Timken Company is seeking a Service Center Engineer to support operations for the regional service center and act as a technical liaison with engineering. You will evaluate repair scope, perform failure analysis, and help return equipment to full working condition on the shop floor.

Ideal candidates have a Mechanical Engineering background with SolidWorks proficiency, strong communication, and the ability to work with cross‑functional teams. Some travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Experience with mechanical power transmission and gear drives is preferred.
• Proficient in SolidWorks 3D modeling and MS Office suite.

Responsibilities

• Implement repair, modification, or upgrade of equipment per customer requirements.
• Evaluate equipment condition and determine reusable vs. replaceable components.
• Provide hands-on technical support on the shop floor during assembly and machining operations.
• Provide technical assistance to suppliers, customers, field service, and customer service.
• Occasional travel may be required.

Timken Power Systems, Philadelphia Gear brand has a current opening for a Service Center Engineer responsible for all technical aspects that support the operations of the regional service centre and acts as a technical liaison to the Philadelphia Gear corporate engineering department.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Implement customer requirements for the repair, modification, or upgrade of customer's equipment
• Evaluate the condition of equipment and determine which components are re-usable, repairable, or must be replaced
• Perform failure analysis and create technical reports for customers
• Define the scope of work needed to return equipment back to full working condition
• Measure and reverse engineer non-PG components
• Provide calculations for manufacture of new gears or repair of existing gears
• Design, specify, and create detail drawings of components
• Build job travelers that lay out the order of operations and describe the work needed to carry out the repairs or modifications of gears, components and equipment
• Provide hands‑on technical support on the shop floor during assembly and machining operations, diagnosing issues, guiding repairs, and implementing corrective actions
• Actively work alongside shop personnel during assembly and manufacturing‑troubleshoot assembly/machining problems, recommend process adjustments, and verify corrective actions
• Provide shop‑floor assistance for complex assemblies and machining processes, offering guidance, inspections, and hands‑on problem resolution
• Provide technical assistance in assembly and machining activities as needed, coaching technicians on best practices and directly resolving technical issues
• Provide technical support to suppliers, customers, field service, and customer service
• Occasional travel may be required

Basic Qualifications:

• Minimum of 2 years experience in design or manufacturing engineering, 4 years preferred
• Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering required
• Experience with mechanical power transmission and gear drives
• Basic knowledge of fluid film and rolling element bearings, gear design, and vibration analysis is highly desirable
• Proficient in SolidWorks 3D modeling
• Excellent computer skills; proficient in Microsoft 365/ Office Suite software
