Job summary

ByteDance Inc. is seeking a Server System Integration Testing and Validation Engineer to design and execute tests for high-performance server products.

You will work with hardware and software teams to ensure full compatibility, performance, and reliability across a broad server platform. The role requires deep experience in server qualification testing, BMC/IPMI, BIOS optimization, and performance analysis using industry tools, plus scripting skills for automation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or above in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a related major, with at least 3 years server qualification experience.
• Familiar with server hardware products from mainstream vendors, SSDs/HDDs, NICs, and testing methods; proficient in tools including speccpu, fio, iperf, stream, mlc, lmbench and tuning methods.
• Experience in server qualification testing; proficient with BMC IPMI commands, BIOS performance and power consumption optimization; debugging skills.
• Strong performance analysis skills using perf, VTune, and multiple analysis methods to identify bottlenecks.
• Familiarity with NICs and performance evaluation/tuning (bandwidth, latency).
• Strong scripting ability in Shell or Python.

• Collaborate with partners to assess test coverage throughout engineering, including test plan, review, and reporting.
• Support design teams in root-cause analysis and refining test schemes to improve effectiveness.
• Participate in performance testing and tuning, including benchmark assessments and hardware-related analyses.
• Research new components/technologies and verify their implementation to boost server competitiveness.
• Maintain automated test cases and review supplier R&D test plans and reports to ensure quality.

We are looking for a self-motivated Server System Integration Testing and Validation Engineer with the following responsibilities:

• Responsible for the system integration testing of server products to ensure the functional completeness, software and hardware compatibility, performance and reliability of server systems;
• Work jointly with partners to ensure the test coverage effect of server products in the engineering phase, including formulating the overall test plan, test planning, test case review, test report review and other related tasks;
• Provide support for the design team to identify the root causes of faults and defects detected during the analysis and testing process, and continuously adjust and optimize the testing scheme and implementation intensity through defect analysis to ensure the testing effect;
• Participate in performance testing and tuning, including benchmark performance testing, and assist businesses in conducting hardware-related performance analysis and tuning;
• Research on and qualification of new components and technologies, as well as verification of their implementation, to support the enhancement of the competitiveness of server systems;
• Responsible for maintaining automated test cases and conducting code development, reviewing the test plans and test reports of the supplier's R&D at all stages to ensure that the quality of server R&D meets the standards.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualification(s)

• Bachelor's degree or above in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a related major, at least 3 years of working experience in server qualification;
• Familiar with server hardware products from mainstream vendors, as well as mainstream SSDs, hard disks, network interface cards, and corresponding testing methods; Proficient in tools including speccpu, fio, iperf, stream, mlc, lmbench and relevant tuning methods;
• Have experience in server qualification testing, be proficient in BMC IPMI commands, BIOS performance and power consumption optimization methods, and issue debugging skills;
• Have certain performance analysis and tuning methods, master in-depth performance analysis tools such as perf, emon/Vtune, and be capable of using multiple performance analysis methods to analyze benchmark performance and business performance bottlenecks;
• Familiarity with the working principle of network interface cards, performance (bandwidth, latency, etc.) evaluation methods, performance tuning methods;
• Strong ability to write automated test scripts, familiar with at least Shell or Python programming;

Preferred Qualification(s)

• Master's degree or above in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a related major, at least 3 years of working experience in GPU server qualification;
• Familiar with CPU/GPU platform architecture, and/or application performance optimization design or software-hardware co-design;
• Understand the implementation of CPU virtualization technology in distributed systems;
• Demonstrated experience of working collaboratively in cross-functional teams;
• Familiarity with Java, C or C++ is a plus;

【For Pay Transparency】Compensation Description (Annually)

The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $162000 - $387600 annually.

Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.

Benefits may vary depending on the nature of employment and the country work location. Employees have day one access to medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) savings plan with company match, paid parental leave, short-term and long-term disability coverage, life insurance, wellbeing benefits, among others. Employees also receive 10 paid holidays per year, 10 paid sick days per year and 17 days of Paid Personal Time (prorated upon hire with increasing accruals by tenure).
