Summary

Serves guests quickly, efficiently, and with complete knowledge of food and beverage menus. Offers superior customer service and maintains station in a clean and orderly manner throughout shift.

Essential Functions
  • Warmly greets and acknowledges guests upon arrival.
  • Checks customers identification to ensure that they meet minimum age requirements for consumption of alcoholic beverages when ordered.
  • Effectively merchandise food and beverage menus in an informative, friendly, and enthusiastic manner. Answering any questions customers may have concerning menu items.
  • Informs customers of any specials.
  • Accurately takes guest orders in a timely fashion and enters the order into computer system for transmittal to kitchen staff.
  • Checks with customers to ensure that they are enjoying their meals and take action to correct any problems timely.
  • Serve food and/or beverages to customers.
  • Remove dishes and glasses from tables or counters, take them to the kitchen for cleaning.
  • Cleans, stocks, and maintains the workstations throughout shift.
  • Follows all safety and sanitation policies and procedures.
  • Correctly and precisely calculates each guest check and collect payments.
  • Complete cleaning tasks on board during, between and after departures.
  • Performs additional responsibilities as directed by management.
  • High school diploma or actively pursuing an education.
  • Prior experience serving in a restaurant preferred.
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes ability to assess customer needs, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Understanding of federal, state, and local liquor laws.
  • Ability to perform basic math skills such as adding and subtracting, counting cash/change.
  • Ability to read/speak/write the English language and communicate professionally and effectively.
  • Ability to take direction and work under moderate supervision.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to work quickly, calmly, and effectively under pressure.
  • Active listening skills: having the ability to give full attention to what others are communicating, taking time to understand, asking questions when appropriate and not interrupting.
  • Ability to problem‑solve using critical thinking, be self‑motivated, and organized.
  • Conflict Resolution, ability to deal with unpleasant or angry customers.
Working Conditions
  • This position will spend 95% of the time standing/walking and 5% of the time sitting.
  • Position requires ability to bend, twist, make repetitive motions, use hands to hold and carry items/trays, kneel, reach, push and pull.
  • This position requires the ability to work/move safely on a moving train.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
  • Direct contact with guests, managers, and co‑workers.
  • Occasional environmental exposures to cold, heat, snow, rain and water.
  • Existing tattoos are to be covered so they are not visible while on duty.
  • Jewelry should be limited and not detract from a professional appearance or interfere with job performance. The following guidelines have been established:
    • Rings may be worn on no more than two (2) fingers per hand.
    • Employees may wear a maximum of two (2) pairs of earrings on the earlobe only, of a style not exceeding 1/2” in diameter or 1” in length.
  • Nose rings, tongue rings, gauges, cartilage piercing or other visible forms of body modification are prohibited.
  • Hair should be clean, combed, and neatly trimmed. Shaggy, uncombed hair is not permissible. Unnatural colors or extreme hairstyles are not tolerated. For safety and health reasons employees with long hair must keep their hair pulled back, or restrained, with the exception of those who work in an office setting.
