Job summary

UST is seeking a Server Lab Technician for its Redmond, WA platform bring-up team. The role includes hands-on hardware assembly, system bring-up, and firmware/OS configuration, with deep debugging across hardware and software.

Responsibilities include testing server platforms, BIOS/BMC flashing, network configurations, and root-cause analysis. Candidates should have 5+ years in data center server lab settings and a strong foundation in Linux, Windows, and VMware.

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of computer architecture, operating systems, and firmware.
• Hands-on experience with Linux, Windows, and VMware OS installation and driver configuration.
• Proficiency in firmware/BIOS/BMC flashing and debug workflows.
• Experience with debugging tools, triage techniques, and system validation practices.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and root cause analysis skills.
• Ability to work independently in high-pressure environments while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
• Strong communication skills and quick learner of new technologies.

Responsibilities

• Assemble, configure, and test server hardware platforms for bring-up and OS installation (Linux, Windows, VMware).
• Perform BIOS, CPLD, FW, VR, and BMC flashing and chipset driver updates.
• Configure networks via DHCP/Static IP and document configurations.
• Investigate hardware/software issues reported by engineering teams; develop debug tools and procedures.
• Perform root-cause analysis and document findings; collaborate across firmware, hardware, and systems teams.
• Train and mentor new engineers on debug procedures and platform setup.
