Job summary

Request Technology, LLC is seeking a hands-on Server Engineer II in Chicago to support a hybrid data center and Azure environment. The role focuses on day-to-day server operations, virtualization, AD/Identity services, security remediation, and infrastructure projects in a large enterprise.

The ideal candidate has strong Windows and Linux administration, virtualization expertise, and experience automating tasks using PowerShell. On-site work is required with some after-hours coordination.

Qualifications

• Approximately 5–7 years of progressive IT infrastructure experience.
• At least 3 years of experience supporting large-scale Windows Server and virtualization environments.
• Strong hands-on experience administering Windows Server environments, ideally versions 2016–2025.
• Experience supporting Linux distributions such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Ubuntu.
• Hands-on experience with virtualization technologies, including VMware vSphere/ESXi, Nutanix Acropolis, and/or Hyper‑V.
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Azure infrastructure services, including Azure IaaS, virtual machines, Entra ID Connect, RBAC, backup, and disaster recovery.
• Experience with Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and Certificate Services.
• Familiarity with infrastructure monitoring and configuration management tools such as SCOM, Zabbix, SCCM, and Ansible Tower.
• Strong PowerShell scripting skills and experience with automation.
• Knowledge of vulnerability management, patching, security remediation, and infrastructure compliance practices.
• Strong troubleshooting, communication, documentation, and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Server Administration: Level 2 support and administration for Windows Server and Linux environments.

Position Overview

A leading global law firm is seeking a Server Engineer II to join its global Server Operations team in Chicago. This hands-on infrastructure engineering role supports a hybrid enterprise environment spanning on-premises data centers and Microsoft Azure.

The Server Engineer II will be responsible for day-to-day server operations, infrastructure administration, cloud optimization, security remediation, and enterprise technology projects. The ideal candidate has strong experience administering Windows and Linux environments, managing virtualization technologies, supporting Azure infrastructure, and automating operational tasks.

Key Responsibilities

• Server Administration: Provide Level 2 support and advanced administration for enterprise Windows Server and Linux environments, maintaining system availability, performance, and reliability.
• Virtualization: Manage and support virtualized infrastructure using VMware vSphere/ESXi, Nutanix Acropolis, and Microsoft Hyper-V.
• Active Directory & Identity Services: Administer Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy Objects (GPOs), and Certificate Services.
• Cloud Infrastructure: Support and optimize Microsoft Azure environments, including virtual machines, Entra ID Connect, role-based access control (RBAC), Azure Backup, and Azure Site Recovery.
• Monitoring & Automation: Use tools such as SCOM, Zabbix, SCCM, and Ansible Tower to monitor infrastructure, troubleshoot issues, and automate configuration and deployment activities.
• Security & Compliance: Perform vulnerability remediation, server patching, configuration updates, and security hardening in collaboration with security teams.
• Infrastructure Projects: Contribute to server provisioning, migrations, upgrades, cloud infrastructure initiatives, and disaster recovery planning.
• Documentation: Maintain accurate technical documentation, operational procedures, and infrastructure reports.
• Collaboration: Work closely with global IT teams, security stakeholders, and external vendors to deliver stable, secure, and scalable infrastructure solutions.

Work Schedule

• Participation in an on-call rotation, including responding to after-hours emergencies as needed.
• Scheduled weekend maintenance windows for patching, upgrades, and infrastructure changes.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a hands-on infrastructure engineer with a strong Windows Server background complemented by Linux administration experience, virtualization expertise, and Microsoft Azure knowledge.
