Job summary

The Orchards Health Center is hiring a Server/Nutrition Services Diet Aide to join our community dining teams in California. Full Time and Part Time shifts are available, with a schedule including mornings and/or evenings.

You will help with tray service, meal preparation, and courteous resident care in a skilled nursing and assisted living setting. Ideal candidates are empathetic, reliable, and team players who can follow instructions and ensure safe food handling.

Qualifications

• Empathy for elderly and excellent customer service are essential.
• Be reliable, organized and a team player.
• Food Handler card can be obtained after hire.
• Six months experience as a diet aide or in a skilled nursing facility is preferred but not required; on‑the‑job training provided.

Responsibilities

• Serve in community dining rooms and ensure dining standards and exemplary customer service.
• Prepare meal trays and understand therapeutic diets menus.
• Take orders courteously and listen patiently.
• Clear tables and assist with meal and snack service.
• Transport food and non‑food items between kitchen and dining areas.
• Maintain sanitation and assist with meal setup and breakdown.

The Server/Nutrition Services Diet Aide is responsible for table service within the community dining rooms. This position will require all standards of restaurant dining service are met and exemplary customer service will be provided to all residents.

Principle Duties

• Responsible for completing pre and post-meal time checklists for skilled nursing trayline and assisted living dining services.
• Prepares meal trays for skilled nursing trayline and achieves competency in understanding of therapeutic diets menus.
• Takes assisted living residents orders graciously and courteously, listens with patience.
• Clears dished from dining room tables, before, during, and after meal service.
• Assists with the preparation and portioning of nourishments, snacks, salads and desserts.
• Sets up tables in the health center dining rooms and breaks down same after meal.
• Transports hot and cold foods to and from the kitchen. Transports all required non-food items to and from the kitchen.
• Maintains station equipment and work area in safe and sanitary conditions per manufacturer guidelines.
• Attends in-service training and education sessions as assigned.
• Follows proper food handling techniques and coordinates the use of time, material and equipment to avoid waste and unnecessary expense.
• Maintains acceptable standards of personal hygiene and complies with department dress code.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

• Strong desire to work with and have empathy for the elderly.
• Excellent customer service and listening skills.
• Be reliable, organized and a team player
• Food Handler card (can be obtained after hire)
• Six Month's experience as a diet aide, diet clerk in a skilled nursing facility preferred but not required. Will train on-the-job.
• Ability to understand and follow instructions in English, communicate effectively, and perform simple arithmetic. Ability to understand measurements and conversions.
• Ability to interpret standardized recipes, instructions, specifications and standards.
• Ability to plan and organize work, set up trays and plates in accordance with diet orders and interpret specifications and standards.
