Job summary

The Press Hotel in Portland, ME is seeking friendly servers to join our hospitality team. You will greet guests, direct seating, take orders, and ensure timely service with a strong knowledge of our food and drink offerings.

Practice upselling, communicate daily specials, and maintain a polished dining environment while adhering to safety and cleanliness standards. Part-time availability with opportunities for more hours.

Union at the Press Hotel in Portland, Maine is hiring servers to join our team of hospitality professionals.

Job Summary:
  • Greet, direct, seat, and take food and beverage orders. Serve guestsin accordance withcompany standards.
  • Be knowledgeable of all food and drink offered.
  • Usethe suggestiveselling methods. Must continuously strive for revenue growth.
  • Understand and communicate daily specials and specialty menus to guests.
  • Be perceptive, proactive, and engaging. Anticipate your guest’s needs. Personalize the guest experience when possible; remember your guest and their requests
  • Complete pre-shift preparation such as setting tables and preparing service station.
  • Complete side work and closing tasks as required such as cleaning and restocking for next shift.
  • Operate efficiently and calmly throughout peak service times and high stress situations. Seekassistancefrom leadership when needed to ensure guest satisfaction.
  • Polish glassware and flatware, record any breakage.
  • Removetrash. Restock service stations and service bar areas.
  • Make coffee, tea, andespressos.
  • Prepare and presentfinalbill toguestfor payment. Obtain settlement and process using the POS system with adjustedtipif noted.
  • Reconciliatecash, accurately charge credit cards, and makeappropriate cashdeposits atendof shift.
  • Check out with manager onceshiftis complete.
  • Practice cleanliness and safety in all dining areas,liquorand wine storage areas.
  • Professionally handle guest complaints, solve problems, apologize/emphasize during guest complaints, follow up.Communicateany elevated complaints that could not be resolved to Food & Beverage management.
  • Assistteam members as needed to promote a positive teamwork environment.
  • Practice conscious knowledge of food allergies and safety.Communicate allergy concerns to guests.
  • Demonstrate a team-focused attitude and encourage collaboration.
  • Understand and use safe work practicesforall safety precautions includingEmergency Evacuation Procedures,Violence in the Workplace,Accident Reporting,OSHA Compliance,andBloodborne Pathogen Procedures.
  • Attend meetings and training sessions asrequired.
  • Comply withall policies as outlined in the Handbook, Property Supplement, or otherwise issuedincluding time and attendance expectations, uniform and dress code standards, anti-harassment policy, and substances in the workplace.
Essential Functions:
  • Ability to remain standing for up to8hours
  • Ability to lift items overhead. Ability to bend and reachfrequentlyand repetitively during a shift.
  • Ability to remain in a standing or walking position for 90% of shift, given moderate rest breaks.
  • Ability to move up and down stairs
  • Ability to move quickly based on guest needs
  • Ability to regularly move andlift upto50 lbs.
  • Ability to use repetitive manual dexterity, such as typing,polishing, using hand tools, and fixing small items
  • Ability to bend, stretch, and reachfrequently, including above head, and repetitively during a shift
  • Ability to bendand kneel
  • Ability to visibly survey property areas clearly
  • Ability to view a digital computer/tablet screen
  • Ability to communicate and exchange information effectively, ofteninapublic/groupsetting
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English
  • Ability to complete asatisfactory background check
  • Ability to perform assigned tasks,operateequipment, and complete job dutiesin a safe manner
  • Abilityto work flexible hours based on business needs including midweek and weekend days

The anticipated starting pay for this position is $9.00 per hour plus tips. Actual compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, qualifications, skills, and internal equity. Part time availability welcome, up to full time hours available. Current shift openings will primarily be PM, but all availability welcome to apply.
