Job summary

Big Whiskey's American Restaurant & Bar in Owensboro, KY is seeking a hospitality-driven server to provide friendly, responsive service and create a memorable dining experience for guests. Your main objective is to ensure guests have a marvelous time and want to return.

Responsibilities include greeting guests promptly, describing specials, taking orders, relaying to the kitchen, delivering meals, and processing payments, while maintaining a clean station and assisting teammates as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of service experience.
• Be able to communicate and understand the predominant language(s) of our guests.
• Must have a basic knowledge of dining room and service procedures and functions.
• Possess basic math skills and have the ability to handle money and operate a micros system.
• Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 5 hours).
• Be able to safely lift and easily maneuver trays of food frequently weighing up to 20 to 25 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Welcome and greet guests within 30 seconds. Make all of our guests feel comfortable and let them know you’re there to personally take care of them
• Introduce yourself
• Inform guests of specials and menu changes
• Make recommendations you genuinely feel your guest will enjoy
• Answer questions about our food, beverages, and other restaurant functions and services
• Take food and beverage orders from guests, enter orders into the micros system, double-check to ensure accuracy, which relays orders to the kitchen and bar.
• Deliver food and beverages from the kitchen and bar to guests in a timely manner (1-minute drink orders)
• Perform side work at the start and end of each shift as required by the service station assignment
• Anticipate the guests' needs i.e. napkins, drink refills, appetizer plates
• Build Regulars
• Maintain clean service areas and pre bus tables
• Monitor and observe guests' dining experience. Ensure guests are satisfied with the food and service. Respond promptly and courteously to any requests
• Prepare final bill, present the check to the guest, accept payment, process credit card charges or make a change if applicable
• When dropping check, don’t travel too far, check back ASAP
• Be ready and willing to assist fellow servers as situations arise
• Be ready and willing to assist the bus person/hostess with clearing and resetting tables
• Thank guests for their visit and invite them to return
• Be available to fill in as needed to ensure smooth and efficient operation of the restaurant as directed by the restaurant manager or immediate supervisor
