Overview

Join the HJF Team!

HJF is seeking a Serology Medical Technologist I to support the Diagnostics and Countermeasures Branch (DCB) at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research in Silver Spring, Maryland. HJF provides scientific, technical, and programmatic support services to DCB. The position requires ASCP certification.

The incumbent will perform assays and procedures in strict accordance with laboratory SOPs, policies, GCLP, accrediting bodies, and U.S. regulatory agencies, including CAP, DoD CLIP, and the U.S. FDA. Responsibilities include sample preparation and analysis, operation and maintenance of instrumentation, and ensuring quality control in support of clinical diagnostics and research. No evening shifts required.

Note: This site requires non-U.S. citizens to reside in the U.S. for three of the last five years.

Responsibilities
  1. Perform serological screening assays for HIV detection in a high-throughput lab, including specimen processing per SOPs, manufacturer guidelines, and regulations. Handle samples properly, record data, aliquot for storage, and monitor supplies.
  2. Review sample and quality control data, ensure compliance with standards, and accurately enter data into databases or LIMS.
  3. Maintain compliance with QA programs, including quality control, equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and documentation.
  4. Perform scheduled maintenance on equipment as per SOPs.
  5. Follow safety regulations and instructions during all tasks.
  6. Assist with additional duties as assigned by the Lead Technologist, including training participation.
Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in a life science preferred.
  • 0-2 years of relevant experience required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong laboratory and technical skills.
  • Ability to work independently after training and maintain accurate records.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to identify process improvements.
  • ASCP certification in cytology, histology, microbiology, serology-immunology, hematology, clinical chemistry, or immunohematology required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background check.
Work Environment

Primarily laboratory setting.

Work Arrangement
  • On-site position only, no telework.
  • 10-hour shifts, 8:00 am - 6:30 pm, Monday to Friday, with Saturday rotation (40 hours/week).
Compensation

Hourly pay ranges from $24.09 to $33.65, based on experience and education.
