The State of South Carolina is seeking a Correctional Sergeant responsible for the safe transportation of inmates. This role requires scheduling, supervision, and ensuring the proper use of security equipment. Candidates must have relevant experience and complete required training. The position is integral to maintaining safety and order during inmate transport and in community settings.
That are assigned to the central bus terminal / transport team.
Sergeant will be on 24/7 call for scheduling of transports and staffing assignments.
Provide proper use and training of keys, firearms, chemical munitions, and restraining equipment when necessary and ensure all are in working order.
Maintain control of security keys/equipment assigned to the hospital.
Ensure safe, order and control of inmates housed in community hospital.
Inspects post to ensure subordinate proper performance stay up to date on security status of inmates assigned to the hospital.
Responds to complaints and concerns from hospital staffing in reference to inmates and staff and all other duties assigned by the division of security management.
Monitor and ensure transportation vehicle are in a high state of readiness, cleaned, and serviceable.
Ensure communication devices are operational.
Report and correct vehicular deficiencies.
May be assigned to work in an institutional setting after transportation assessments are completed.
Monitor inmates' movement and relieve officers from post as needed and any other duties of a correctional sergeant II duties that may be required.
Review prepared and submit written documentation and reviews operational and administrative reports when necessary.
May be assigned specific duties to ensure cleaning of building, ground, etc.
Proper supervision and control of inmates in the central bus terminal.
Perform all essential and marginal functions of the Lieutenant II position as required by the Lieutenant II post orders of a central bus terminal of a central bus terminal officer as needed and all other duties assigned by Division of Security Management.
Assist in emergency evacuations of Inmates/civilians during or after inclement weather as needed.
May be placed on a on call list for weekend duties.
This position serves as a driver for Richland county.
Must successfully complete eight (8) week SCDC Basic Training upon hire.
State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:
A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor's degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.
SCDC Minimum Requirements:
(Or an acceptable equivalency as approved by the Division of State Human Resources).
Eighteen (18) months experience in correctional, security, military, or police work.
A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for 1/2 of required experience.
Must be certified by the SCDC training academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
