Job description

Job Responsibilities

1. Schedule and provide safe transport of inmates across all custody levels, including post-convictions relief (PCR), medical appointments, parole, extraditions, secure-keepers (SK), special management units (SMU), security detention (SD), regional courts, and hospitals (male and female).
2. Coordinate with the central bus terminal / transport team for assignments.
3. Be on 24/7 call for scheduling transports and staffing.
4. Ensure proper use, training, and maintenance of keys, firearms, chemical munitions, and restraining equipment.
5. Maintain control of security keys and equipment at the hospital.
6. Manage security and order for inmates housed in the community hospital.
7. Inspect the post regularly to ensure proper performance and stay updated on inmates' security status.
8. Respond to complaints and concerns from hospital staff regarding inmates and security matters.
9. Monitor transportation vehicles for readiness, cleanliness, and serviceability; report deficiencies.
10. Ensure communication devices are operational.
11. Perform duties related to vehicle maintenance and readiness.
12. May be assigned to work within institutional settings after transportation assessments.
13. Supervise inmate movement and staff posts as needed, including relieving officers.
14. Prepare and submit operational and administrative reports.
15. Participate in facility cleaning duties if assigned.
16. Supervise and control inmates in the central bus terminal.
17. Perform all functions of a Correctional Sergeant II as directed, including emergency evacuations and other duties assigned by the Division of Security Management.
18. Assist in emergency procedures during inclement weather.
19. Be available on a on-call basis for weekend duties.
20. This position serves as a driver for Richland County.

Additional Requirements

Must successfully complete an eight-week SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Minimum Requirements

High school diploma and relevant experience; a bachelor's degree may substitute for experience.

At least 18 months of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work; a related degree may substitute for half of the experience.

Certification by the SCDC training academy and successful completion of the basic supervisory course within six months of employment are required.
