The State of South Carolina is seeking a Security Supervisor to oversee security personnel on a shift, coordinate with staff, and ensure inmates are supervised safely. Duties include inspections, briefings, and counseling.

The role requires a high school diploma with relevant experience; completion of SCDC Basic Training and certification within six months; opportunities to substitute education for experience in certain cases.

Formación

• High school diploma and relevant experience; a bachelor's degree may substitute for the required experience.
• Must successfully complete eight weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.
• Must be certified by the SCDC training academy and complete the basic supervisory course within six months of entry into the position.

Responsabilidades

• Supervises the performance of security personnel assigned to shift.
• Assists with preparation of employee evaluations, disciplinary actions, and counseling sessions.
• Assists with conducting shift briefings with all officers.
• Remains familiar with all activities during the shift to keep subordinates informed of changes affecting inmates and operations.
• Makers routine and non-routine security checks of work areas and living units.
• Conducts formal and non-formal counts.
• Investigates inmate complaints and takes appropriate action; counsels inmates as required.
• Monitors inmate movement within the institution.
• Performs essential and marginal duties of subordinates; performs all other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:

A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor’s degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.

SCDC Minimum Requirements:

• A high school diploma and eighteen (18) months experience in correctional, security, military, or police work.

• A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for 1/2 of required experience.

• Must be certified by the SCDC training academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
