Job summary

State of South Carolina is seeking a security supervisor to manage a level 1b facility’s security operations and personnel. You will oversee guard assignments, enforce security policies, and ensure safety of state property.

The role requires high school diploma and six years of relevant experience with two years in supervision; a bachelor’s degree or criminal justice degree may substitute. You will complete SCDC training within six months.

Job description

• Schedules, directs, and manages the employment and duty activities of a security staff engaged in the security operations of a level 1b facility.
• Supervises, inspects, and ensures proper perimeter and Internal security and control measures are in effect and enforced.
• Prepares, submits, and monitors reports required by the chain of command and policy.
• Directs and redirects security resources for optimum security and safety.
• Ensures that institutional buildings and state property are properly secured.
• Trains, develops, instructs, evaluates, and counsels subordinates to ensure duty performance is in accordance with state laws and agency policies.
• Ensures the proper control, issues and use of weapons, keys, security devices and agency equipment.
• Inspects all posts where shift employees are deployed.
• Interviews and counsels’ inmates as necessary to ensure maximum safety and security.
• Serves as the duty warden in rotation, and the DHO for the institution.

Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:

A high school diploma and relevant supervisory experience. A bachelor’s degree in a related field may substitute for the required supervisory experience.

SCDC Minimum Requirements:

• A high school diploma and six (6) years of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work to include two (2) years of supervisory experience.
• A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for supervisory experience year for year (associate and above = 2 year).
• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
