Job description

Job Responsibilities

1. Under the direct supervision of the sergeant, ensure the central bus terminal operation meets daily objectives and adheres to agency policies and procedures.
2. Provide direction and instruction to inmates and/or correctional officers regarding discipline, safety, security, and inmate rehabilitation programs.
3. Provide proper instruction on the use of keys, firearms, chemical munitions, and restraining equipment when necessary. Counsel inmates as required.
4. Monitor inmate movement within the central bus terminal.
5. Transport inmates safely across all custody levels for PCR, medical appointments, transfers, parole, and extradition routes, including male and female inmates.
6. Transport safekeepers (SK) and special management unit (SMU) inmates.
7. Exercise good supervisory judgment and decision-making during inmate transport.
8. This position also serves as a Richland CDL Driver.

Additional Requirements

Must successfully complete an eight (8) week SCDC basic training upon hire.

Minimum Requirements

• High school diploma and relevant experience; a bachelor's degree in a related field may substitute for the experience.
• Eighteen (18) months of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work.
• A degree in criminal justice or a related field may substitute for half of the required experience.
• Certification by the SCDC training academy and successful completion of the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of employment.
• Attain CDL certification within six (6) months.
