Septic & Grease Truck Operator – Job Summary

The Septic & Grease Truck Operator is responsible for operating vacuum trucks to pump, transport, and dispose of septic waste, grease trap waste, and other non-hazardous liquid waste in accordance with company policies and environmental regulations. This position serves residential, commercial, and municipal customers while maintaining a strong commitment to safety, customer service, and equipment care.

• Drive to a client’s property to inspect the septic tanks, grease traps, and aeration systems and recommend the course of action.
• Communicate with the supervisor while out on site to relay information about what tools are going to be needed and whether other crew members need to be brought to the job site.
• Clean client’s septic tanks regularly, which usually involves pumping them free of the materials inside.
• Remove grease buildup from commercial kitchen grease trap systems, both inside and outside.
• Completion and submission of quote and service paperwork to management in a timely manner, if required.
• Speak with clients about proper maintenance they can undergo on their own concerning the septic tank.
• Respond to trouble/emergency calls in a timely manner.

Qualifications

• A positive can-do attitude and openness to trying things in new ways.
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 65 lbs.
• Must be able to access and tolerate small crawl spaces.
• Knowledge of OSHA regulations.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Working knowledge of basic hand tools and mechanical equipment.
• Ability to travel to wherever the job is needed.
• Required to be on an on-call rotation.
• A CDL Class B with Tanker endorsement and be insurable.
• A record of CDL driving history.
• Be able to pass a pre-employment background and drug screen.

Work Environment

• Must be able and willing to conduct strenuous and physically demanding tasks for long hours, work outdoors, and in inclement weather conditions.
• Must be able to lift and carry materials of all shapes and sizes, weighing 40 to 90 pounds.
• Must be able to maintain visual and audible contact with other crewmen and all moving or stationary persons/vehicles/objects to ensure safe coordination of movement.
• Must be able to operate or work around heavy equipment and machinery.
• Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl while performing work.
• Must be able to work while wearing safety boots, safety glasses, hard hat, and any applicable safety gear.
