Job summary

Sensient Technologies Corporation is seeking a Sensory Technician to support sensory evaluation activities for raw materials, in-process materials, finished products, and customer samples. You will follow established procedures, maintain accurate sensory records, and support Quality, R&D, Applications, and Operations with sensory investigations and product evaluations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field with emphasis in sensory.
• 1–3 years of experience in a food, beverage, ingredient laboratory – manufacturing environment preferred.
• Experience performing sensory evaluation or laboratory testing is preferred.
• Experience working with controlled testing procedures and detailed documentation is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conduct routine sensory evaluations of raw materials, process materials, finished products, and customer samples.
• Evaluate products for characteristics such as color, appearance, aroma, flavor, taste, texture, mouthfeel, and overall sensory quality.
• Perform sensory testing according to approved methods, protocols, and sensory evaluation procedures.
• Document sensory results, observations, test conditions, and sample information; assist with trend analysis.
• Support sensory testing for product releases, quality investigations, complaints, and deviations.
• Participate in difference testing, descriptive evaluations, and other sensory studies as required.
• Prepare samples according to established methods to ensure consistent testing.
• Maintain lab supplies, equipment, standards and reference materials; follow GMPs and safety procedures.

Sensient is growing! The Natural Color Conversion is here!! We are adding two Sensory Technicians to our team. The Sensory Technician is responsible for supporting sensory evaluation activities used to assess the quality, consistency, appearance, flavor, aroma, and overall sensory characteristics of raw materials, in-process materials, finished products, and customer samples. This position performs routine sensory testing, prepares and presents samples according to established procedures, maintains accurate sensory records, and supports Quality, R&D, Applications, and Operations with sensory investigations and product evaluations.

The Sensory Technician must have strong attention to detail, the ability to follow standardized testing procedures, and the ability to objectively evaluate and document sensory characteristics without personal bias.

What You'll Do:

• Conduct routine sensory evaluations of raw materials, process materials, finished products, and customer samples.
• Evaluate products for characteristics such as color, appearance, aroma, flavor, taste, texture, mouthfeel, and overall sensory quality, as applicable.
• Perform sensory testing according to approved methods, protocols, and sensory evaluation procedures.
• Conduct comparative evaluations against approved standards, control samples, retains, and customer reference samples. Identify and document sensory differences, defects, off-notes, and changes in product characteristics.
• Support sensory testing associated with product releases, quality investigations, complaints, and deviations.
• Participate in difference testing, descriptive evaluations preference testing, and other sensory studies as required. Prepare samples according to established preparation methods to ensure consistent and repeatable testing.
• Accurately document sensory results, observations, test conditions, and sample information. Assist with trending sensory results to identify changes or recurring product issues.
• Participate in root cause investigations and provide objective sensory observations and supporting data. Support shelf-life stability studies.
• Maintain lab supplies, equipment, standards and reference materials. Follow all GMPs, food safety, quality, laboratory, safety and sanitation procedures.

What You'll Bring:

• Bachelor’s degree is required in Food Science, Sensory Science, Biology, Chemistry or other related field with emphasis in sensory required.
• Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in a food, beverage, ingredient laboratory – manufacturing environment preferred.
• Experience performing sensory evaluation or laboratory testing is preferred.
• Experience working with controlled testing procedures and detailed documentation is preferred.
• Proficiency with MS Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to objectively evaluate sensory attributes. Ability to organize work, prioritize tasks and manage multiple and changing priorities
