Job summary

City of Temple is seeking a Senior Youth Leader to supervise Afterschool participants and assist Recreation staff. You will lead activities, ensure safety, and support various recreational programs for ages 5–13 in indoor and outdoor settings.

This seasonal role requires flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, and may include meals supervision, registration tasks, and facility support as needed. Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus; CPR/First Aid and food handler certification within 90

Qualifications

• Two years of high school completed or equivalent.
• One season (school year) working in a childcare environment.
• Bilingual English and Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensures the safety and well-being of program participants
• Supervises children aged 5-13 in various indoor and outdoor settings
• Develops, leads, and supervises recreation programs/activities for participants of all ages
• Serves meals and snacks to participants as needed
• Leads and supervises the Youth Leader team
• Develops and implements lesson plans for children ages 5-13 in recreation, adventure, education, and enrichment
• Provides exceptional service and communicates with children, parents, co-workers, and City employees
• Manages registration and membership information
• Performs facility attendant duties for recreation centers and rental facilities
• Oversees inventory and property management
• Performs daily tasks including cleaning and answering phones
• Maintains records and prepares reports (participation, usage, accident, work orders)
• Follows City policies, procedures, and safety guidelines
• Performs other duties as assigned

Summary

Senior Youth Leader, under the supervision of a Recreation Specialist and Program Coordinator, will lead and supervise Afterschool participants, and other various recreational activities. This is a seasonal position. Must be available to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays and help in other divisions as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Ensures the safety and well-being of program participants
• Supervises children aged 5-13 in various indoor and outdoor settings, adapting to different weather conditions
• Develops, leads, and supervises at assigned recreation programs/activities, after school sites, recreation centers, rental facilities, and events for participants of all ages
• Serves meals and snacks to program participants as needed
• Leads and supervises assigned Youth Leader team
• Develops and implements lesson plans for children ages 5-13 in areas of recreation, adventure, education, and enrichment
• Provides exceptional service without exception; effectively communicates with children, parents, co-workers, and other City employees
• Receives money, records registration, and membership information
• Performs facility attendant duties for recreation centers and rental facilities
• Oversees inventory and property management.
• Performs daily tasks to include cleaning, answering phones, and general office related tasks
• Maintains essential records, prepares reports as required; to include but not limited to participation reports, usage reports, accident reports, and work orders
• Follows City policies, procedures, and safety guidelines
• Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

• Completion of two (2) years of high school
• Equivalent of one season working in a childcare environment (one (1) school year)

Preferred Qualifications

• One (1) year experience working in a related field
• Bilingual in English and Spanish

Certificates and Licenses

• Valid driver’s license
• CPR and First aid or able to attain within 90 days
• Food handler license or able to attain within 90 days
