Job summary

University of Wisconsin Foundation seeks a Senior Writer/Editor to coedit On Wisconsin, UW–Madison’s flagship alumni magazine, and to edit WFAA’s awards publication. This hybrid role is based in Madison, with at least two days in the office, collaborating with OSC and freelancers to tell impactful stories about UW–Madison.

You will lead digital strategy, SEO, and multimedia storytelling across channels, ensuring timely publication and engaging readership.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, communications arts, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in journalism, writing, publishing, communications, or similar field.
  • Knowledge of magazine publishing and multimedia/digital publishing.

Responsibilities

  • Coedit On Wisconsin, UW–Madison’s quarterly alumni magazine, with OSC design team.
  • Hire and manage freelance writers; secure photography and visuals.
  • Lead strategy for On Wisconsin’s digital channels and perform multimedia storytelling.
  • Develop digital content distribution strategies with WFAA communications and OSC; use SEO/GEO.
  • Coordinate with magazine printer to ensure high-quality production, on-time delivery, and budget adherence.
  • Share story ideas and success metrics with leadership at WFAA and OSC.
  • Lead production for the WFAA Awards publication and support related marketing efforts.
  • Write for On Wisconsin and other WFAA publications; maintain 4WARD records.
