Job summary

State of Ohio seeks an Occupational Safety Technical Advisor to serve as a safety expert from the William Green Building in Columbus. You will analyze data, research solutions, monitor regulations, and create educational materials to help prevent workplace injuries.

The role includes delivering training to Ohio employers and BWC staff, coaching field personnel, conducting quality reviews, and leading regulator updates and projects, including presenting changes to the Board of Directors.

Qualifications

• 5 years’ experience in a public or private organization holding a position involved in risk management or loss control activities AND 3 years’ experience in policy development.
• Undergraduate core program in business administration, risk management or a related field of study AND 3 years’ experience in a public or private organization involved in risk management or loss control activities AND 3 years’ experience in policy development.
• An equivalent of the minimum class qualifications listed above.
• Candidates with demonstrated safety experience are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a safety expert by analyzing data, researching solutions, monitoring regulations, and creating educational materials to help prevent workplace injuries.
• Provide training for Ohio employers and BWC employees, identify training needs, and develop new classes to improve safety knowledge.
• Coach and mentor field staff by assessing their skills, offering feedback, creating new‑hire training, and ensuring consistent quality across the state.
• Conduct quality reviews of on‑site safety activities and consultative services to maintain accuracy and effectiveness.
• Lead regulator updates and special projects, including updating Ohio safety rules and presenting changes to the Board of Directors.
