Job summary

Microchip Technology Inc. in Irvine is seeking a Communications Systems Design Engineer to join the Wireless Systems Group.

You will design and implement the physical layer algorithms for low-power Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth and Sub‑GHz products in a cross-functional global team, tackling challenging engineering problems with practical, test-driven approaches. The role requires 8+ years in wireless PHY, strong signal processing background, and proficiency in MATLAB and C/C++.

Qualifications

Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering required.
8+ years in wireless PHY design and implementation.
Strong background in signal processing and communication theory.
Experience in MATLAB, C/C++ and fixed-point programming and simulation.
Experience on Modem and digital front-end blocks design.
Experience in IC design, RFIC calibration and testing.
Experience in Wi‑Fi or Bluetooth PHY layer standard is a great advantage.
Team player; ability to identify and resolve technical and schedule issues; strong communication/documentation skills.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with RF/Analog, Digital, Validation and Software teams for bringing-up, testing and troubleshooting of test chips and SoCs.
Simulate communication systems and participate in digital block design.
Design and simulation of the physical layer of wireless communication systems.
Develop system models for performance evaluation, optimization and to guide design trade-offs.
Work with RF/Analog and digital design teams to develop module specifications.
Work with RF/Analog, digital and validation teams to bring-up, test and trouble-shoot test chips and SoCs.
Documentation and development of design and test plans.
Bring up communication systems in lab.
Test and debug communication systems.
