Job summary

Chatham County seeks a dedicated program assistant to support aging adults through fitness and activities. You will help plan classes, lead activities, and coordinate events to keep participants active and connected.

You will use MySeniorCenter software, assist with scheduling, and work with the Aging Services Center Manager to create an inclusive environment. A NC driver’s license and willingness to drive the department bus are required.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year of experience working with aging adults.
• Experience teaching exercise classes or leading activities for aging adults preferred.
• Fitness or group exercise certifications are preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for diverse audiences.
• Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, Outlook; ability to navigate the web.

Responsibilities

• Plan and implement programs and activities with the Activity Coordinator (crafts, day trips, educational presentations).
• Assist with teaching and coordinating exercise classes for various skill levels.
• Use MySeniorCenter software to track activity and participant data.
• Provide center tours and assist with enrolling new participants.
• Conduct exercise room orientations and equipment use.
• Set up and break down rooms for activities and events.
• Create monthly activity calendar with Center Manager and Activity Coordinator.
• Assist with planning senior-focused events (Senior Games, SilverArts).
• Support planning and leading evidence-based classes.
• Coordinate day trips using the 14-passenger van as needed.
• Assist with documentation to maintain Center of Excellence designation.
