Department Overview

This position is located within the Gas Standards Engineering department supporting the company's Gas Operations. Gas Operations activities include engineering, construction, maintenance, and safe operation of approximately 5,700 miles of gas transmission pipelines and 42,000 miles of gas distribution pipelines serving 4.4 million gas customers throughout northern and central California.

Position Summary

This position reports to the Supervisor of Standards Engineering and is responsible for developing and maintaining effective gas standards and procedures that enable PG&E to meet or exceed compliance with applicable codes and regulations and ensure public and employee safety. The role requires providing clear, understandable gas standards aligned with operator qualifications (OQs) and training. Excellence in execution is essential for PG&E to become a leading utility in the U.S.

Incumbent may need a valid California driver's license from day one. The position involves approximately 10% travel and is hybrid, working remotely and at the assigned location within PG&E Service Territory (initially San Ramon, possibly Oakland).

Position Duties
  1. Commitment to employee and public safety
  2. Update and create gas standards, procedures, and specifications
  3. Ensure work products are timely and high quality, meeting code requirements
  4. Evaluate variance requests for deviations from standards and procedures
  5. Interact with Engineering, Design, Maintenance, and Construction departments
  6. Provide oversight and leadership to gas technical teams
  7. Promote a compliance culture through training on gas standards and procedures
  8. Collaborate with Materials department on specifications and quality management
  9. Manage evaluation and approval of gas products and suppliers for safety and reliability
  10. Work with stakeholders to incorporate input into standards and procedures, ensuring compliance and safety
  11. Engage with industry and regulatory leaders for best practices and benchmarking
Specific Responsibilities of Senior Welding Specialist
  1. Project Support: review weld matrices and drawings, respond to project issues
  2. Supplier Quality: review vendor documentation, audit QC programs
  3. Other: contribute to PG&E welding program, manage outside topics
Compensation Range

Bay Area Minimum: $109,000
Bay Area Maximum: $175,000

This role is eligible for PG&E’s incentive programs. Actual salary depends on skills, experience, and other factors.

Qualifications
