Department Overview

This position is located within the Gas Standards Engineering department supporting the company's Gas Operations. Gas Operations activities include engineering, construction, maintenance, and safe operation of approximately 5,700 miles of gas transmission pipelines and 42,000 miles of gas distribution pipelines serving 4.4 million gas customers throughout northern and central California.

Position Summary

This position reports to the Supervisor of Standards Engineering and is responsible for developing and maintaining effective gas standards and procedures that enable PG&E to meet or exceed compliance with applicable codes and regulations and ensure public and employee safety. The role requires providing clear, understandable gas standards aligned with operator qualifications (OQs) and training. Excellence in execution is essential for PG&E to become a leading utility in the U.S.

Incumbent may need a valid California driver's license on day one. The position requires approximately 10% travel. It is a hybrid role, working remotely and at the assigned location within PG&E's service territory, initially San Ramon, possibly Oakland in the future.

Position Duties
  • Commitment to employee and public safety
  • Update and create gas standards, procedures, and specifications
  • Ensure work products meet or exceed applicable code requirements
  • Evaluate variance requests for deviations from standards
  • Interact with Engineering, Design, Maintenance, and Construction departments
  • Provide oversight and leadership to gas technical teams
  • Promote a compliance-driven culture through training and engagement
  • Collaborate with Materials department on specifications and quality management
  • Manage evaluation and approval of new and modified gas products and suppliers
  • Work with stakeholders to incorporate input into standards and procedures
  • Benchmark with industry leaders to incorporate best practices
Specific Responsibilities for Senior Welding Specialist
  • Review weld matrices and drawings during project design
  • Respond to project-specific inquiries from welders, inspectors, engineers
  • Review vendor PQR/WPS and design drawings for compliance
  • Audit vendor QC programs
  • Contribute to PG&E's welding program and manage related topics
Compensation

The estimated salary range for this role in the Bay Area is $109,000 to $175,000, depending on skills, experience, and other factors. The role is eligible for incentive programs.

Qualifications

Minimum: High School diploma or equivalent, 8 years relevant experience
