Job summary

Purdue University is seeking a custodial professional to provide independent cleaning support across campus, covering vacancies and supplementing crews as needed.

Ideal candidates have experience, supervision ability, and competence in English, basic math, and computer use; driving license required. Outdoor work and emergency response included.

Qualifications

• 18 months of custodial experience with 3 years of total work experience.
• Must have completed Building Services Custodial Development Program, or enroll within 90 days of hire.
• Ability to supervise and train small (3–10) groups.
• Ability to read, write and speak English; communicate effectively with supervisor, coworkers, and customers.
• Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematics and communicate via a computer.
• Good work organization.
• Knowledge of building maintenance and security policies.
• Working knowledge of floor care equipment (powered/non-powered).
• Ability to lift and carry 25–50 lbs. frequently, up to 60 lbs. occasionally.
• Outdoor work 10% of the time in extreme temperatures.

Job description

What You\'ll be Doing:

• Work independently under limited supervision, provide custodial and specialized cleaning support to cover vacancies and supplement work crews anywhere on campus.
• Respond to customer needs and requests, often relying on personal judgment and application of previous experience and knowledge of established practices and procedures.
• Respond to campus crises situations to enhance public safety and minimize infrastructure damage.
• Respond to emergency calls and assist with snow and ice removal.
• May work in restricted access areas that require highly specialized procedures, training, or certification.

Schedule:

Tuesday-Friday, 3:00pm to 11:30pm and Saturday 2:00pm to 10:30pm

Hourly Pay:

$17.50 plus $0.70 shift differential for a total of $18.20

• Knowledge of policies and procedures regarding building maintenance and security
• Working knowledge of power and non-powered floor care equipment
• Personal protective equipment will be required during specific work duties as determined by the department
• Ability to lift and carry 25-50 lbs. frequently, and up to 60 lbs. occasionally required
• Ability to work efficiently and professionally in a fast paced and diverse team setting
• Will work outdoors 10% of the time in temperatures below 32 degrees or above 90 degrees
• Valid US or Canadian driver's license
