Job summary

Purdue University is hiring a Custodial Supervisor to maintain clean, safe and attractive facilities across campus. You will plan daily work, supervise 12–18 custodians and coordinate coverage for vacancies, while training staff and addressing customer inquiries.

The role requires at least a high school diploma, 2 years custodial experience, 1 year in leadership, and a valid driving license. You will work Mon-Fri, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, with campus-wide responsibilities and safety focus.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 2 years custodial experience with 4 years total work experience.
• 1 year of supervision experience required.
• Valid US or Canadian driver's license required.
• Ability to read, write and speak English.

Responsibilities

• Ensure cleanliness, safety and appearance of assigned buildings per standards.
• Plan and coordinate daily work to cover vacancies and ensure service continuity.
• Train, coach, support and supervise custodians at multiple locations.
• Interface with customers to resolve issues and respond to queries.
• Maintain inventory of custodial tools, supplies and equipment and records.
• Cover vacancies or special requests with custodial duties as needed.
• Respond to campus crises to enhance safety and minimize damage.
• Supervise and train moderate sized groups (12-18).
• Read, write and communicate effectively with supervisor, co-workers and customers.

Job description

• Ensure the cleanliness, safety and appearance of assigned buildings in accordance with established standards
• Plan and coordinate daily work assignments to cover vacancies, provide continuous delivery of services, and ensure equitable distribution of work
• Train, coach, support and supervise custodians in single or multiple locations
• Interface with customers to resolve problems and complaints and respond to queries
• Maintain an inventory of custodial tools, supplies and equipment and maintain on-site administrative records
• Perform custodial duties to cover vacancies, absences or special requests
• Required to respond to campus crises situations to enhance public safety and minimize infrastructure damage
• Must be able to supervise and train moderate sized (12-18) groups
• Ability to read, write and speak English; must be able to communicate effectively with supervisor and co-workers, fill out work orders, give and direct work assignments, and communicate both verbally and in writing with customers

What We’re Looking For:

Education and Experience

Qualified Candidates Will Need:

• High School Diploma/GED
• 2years of custodial experience with 4years of total work experience
• 1year of supervision experience
• A valid US or Canadian driver's license

Skills Needed:

• Must have completed initial entry training, or be enrolled in program within 90 days of hire
• Must be able to functionally supervise and train moderate sized (12-18) groups
• Ability to read, write and speak English is required; must be able to communicate effectively with supervisor and co-workers, fill out work orders, give and direct work assignments, and communicate both verbally and in writing with customers
• Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematics
• Good work organization ability
• Demonstrated leadership ability
• Must be able to work well with others
• Working knowledge of powered and non-powered floor care equipment
• Knowledge of policies and procedures regarding building maintenance and security
• Ability to lift and carry 10 to 25 lbs. frequently, and up to 60 lbs. occasionally required
• Required to work outdoors 10% of the time in temperatures below 32 degrees
