Job summary

NV5 is seeking a Senior Water/Wastewater Engineer in California to lead design and delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure projects. You will manage scope, budget, and schedules, mentor junior engineers, and interact with clients and regulators.

The role emphasizes hydraulic modeling, master planning, and collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams while advancing community water resilience and sustainability.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Civil or Environmental engineering; an MS is preferred.
  • California PE preferred or ability to obtain within a year.
  • 8+ years of progressive water/wastewater design experience.
  • Experience with hydraulic modeling software (Innovyze).
  • LEED and/or QSD/QSP preferred.
  • Experience with CA municipalities and public agencies preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, design, and prepare construction documents for water and wastewater infrastructure.
  • Manage projects, serve as client contact, overseeing delivery, budget, and schedule.
  • Prepare reports, plans, specs, and estimates; master planning and hydraulic modeling.
  • Mentor junior engineers; present to governing boards and city councils; assist permitting.
  • Travel to project sites and client meetings as required.

Responsibilities

Executes complex assignments relating to planning, designing, and preparing construction documents related to water and wastewater infrastructure, including collection and transmission pipelines; pump stations, and water/wastewater treatment systems.

The candidate will have experience and/or expertise in one or more of the following:

  • Water supply and treatment design
  • Water transmission, distribution and storage
  • Pump stations
  • Wastewater conveyance
  • Wastewater treatment
  • Reclaimed water transmission, distribution and storage

As a Senior Water/Wastewater Engineer, the candidate will apply standard engineering practices and techniques, which may include:

  • Project Management, point of contact with clients, managing project delivery, budget, and schedule.
  • Assist in the delivery of water and/or wastewater projects, including evaluation and detailed design of water and wastewater treatment plants, supply wells, water reuse systems, distribution systems, conveyance, storage, and pipeline projects.
  • Preparing Preliminary Engineering Reports, Plans, Specifications, and Estimates
  • Preparing master planning reports and hydraulic modeling
  • Participating in local professional organizations.
  • Assisting in marketing business opportunities with key clients and development of responses to RFP/RFQs.
  • Developing long-term relationships with clients
  • Assisting clients with permitting
  • Successfully interfacing with multi-disciplinary design teams, including civil site design, structural, surveying, and geotechnical engineering
  • Mentoring junior engineers
  • Presentations to governing boards and city councils
  • Work with local and state regulatory agencies for project permitting, funding, etc.
  • Travel to project sites and client meetings, with occasional overnight stays required
Requirements
  • Degree in Civil or Environmental engineering; an M.S. Degree in a related field is preferred
  • California PE preferred or ability to obtain a California PE license within a year
  • 8+ years of progressive relevant water/wastewater infrastructure design experience.
  • Experience with hydraulic modeling software for water distribution and wastewater collection systems is preferred (Innovyze products)
  • LEED and/or QSD/QSP is preferred
  • Local municipality and water district experience in CA is strongly preferred. Experience working with Southern California municipalities and public agencies is a plus.

The pay range for this position in California is $150,000 to $180,000 per year. Base pay offered may be higher or lower depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location of the candidate. Restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
