Job summary

City of Irving is seeking a maintenance worker to operate equipment and crews for water and wastewater systems in Irving, Texas. You will perform repairs, assist in stock and reporting, and provide public information as needed.

The role may include working on the in-house pipe laying crew to replace aging mains. Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, two years of related experience, a Class A CDL, TCEQ licenses, and the ability to operate a backhoe and other heavy machinery.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Two years water and wastewater maintenance or related experience required.
  • Class A CDL Texas driver's license and TCEQ Class C Water and Collection II Wastewater licenses required.
  • Ability to operate a backhoe and other heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of water boring equipment and related tools.
  • Shift work may include day, evening or night; standby repair crew rotation.
  • Submit hours of availability with application.

Responsibilities

  • Operate various types of equipment and heavy machinery to maintain water and wastewater systems.
  • Repair water and/or wastewater mains and related infrastructure.
  • Answer public inquiries and provide information to residents.
  • Prepare a variety of reports and maintain stock of supplies and materials.
  • Supervise one or more maintenance workers in the absence of the crew leader.
  • Support maintenance operations for aging pipe systems as part of the in-house crew.
