Job summary

The City of Vallejo is seeking a Senior Water Treatment Plant Operator to operate and maintain the water treatment plant and distribution system. This full‑time role applies advanced technical knowledge, ensures regulatory compliance, and may lead other operators on shifts.

Responsibilities include startup/shutdown management, diagnostics, testing, record keeping, and training of Operator Trainees. A Grade T4 certification and a valid driver's license are required.

Qualifications

• Four years of experience in water treatment operations.
• Two years of journey-level experience with Grade T3 certification.
• SWRCB Grade T4 certification required.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Hazardous Materials Technician, Confined Space Entry, CPR/First Aid, and Fork Lift Safety desirable.
• Ongoing maintenance of certifications, licenses, and registrations.

Responsibilities

• Operate complex plant operations, including startup/shutdowns and testing.
• Troubleshoot problems, perform minor maintenance and calibration.
• Test and monitor treatment equipment; prepare samples for testing.
• Check regulatory compliance and record analytical results.
• Maintain operating logs and perform plant calculations.
• Lead operator duties on shifts as assigned.
• Instruct and monitor Operator Trainees and Staff Operators.
• Assist Plant Supervisor with special projects and training.
