Job summary

Michigan State University FRIB Laboratory seeks a Lead Water System Engineer III to lead operation, maintenance, and improvement of FRIB's cooling water and process utilities. You will guide design, testing, commissioning, and long-term reliability of critical water systems supporting accelerator operations.

Ideal candidates have a mechanical/chemical/nuclear engineering background with 5–8 years of relevant experience, strong analytical skills, and a track record in maintenance planning, safety

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 5–8 years of experience in water/utility systems.
• Equivalency of education and experience acceptable.
• Knowledge of safety programs including radiological controls.

Responsibilities

• Own FRIB cooling water and related utility systems.
• Lead troubleshooting and failure analysis of pumps and piping.
• Design upgrades for cooling water and process utilities.
• Perform analyses of fluid flow and heat transfer.
• Oversee maintenance, testing, and commissioning of major equipment.
• Support facility projects with specs and vendor evaluation.
• Develop procedures, documentation, and training materials.
• Track performance for predictive maintenance.
