Job Description

KPFF is currently hiring an experienced Senior Water Resource Engineer to support major projects throughout the Pacific Northwest. This position will support transportation projects and associated hydraulic elements, primarily fish passage and stormwater design. The candidate will utilize their expertise in water resources engineering related projects, including stormwater facilities design; surface water hydrology and hydraulic analysis and design; culvert and bridge hydraulics; stream and habitat restoration analysis and design; preparation of engineering and construction plans, specifications, and estimates; and coordination with regulatory agencies for project permitting. The role involves performing engineering design and delivering high-quality products to clients.

Position Responsibilities:

This role involves working as part of a multi-disciplinary team with clients in the public sector on all phases of transportation projects. Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting engineering projects for roadway and transit improvements, bicycle and pedestrian facilities, site development, fish passage, and ecological restoration.
  • Performing stormwater related design, analysis, and reporting for roadways, bridges, airports, and transportation infrastructure.
  • Providing detailed engineering calculations for stormwater and fish passage facilities.
  • Creating hydrologic and hydraulic models.
  • Designing water resources systems and facilities, including hydraulic analysis for stream crossings, fish passage, and scour evaluations.
  • Applying knowledge of local, state, and federal fish passage and stormwater management standards.
  • Creating stormwater, stream, conveyance designs, and associated grading using AutoCAD Civil 3D with 3D surfaces and pipe networks.
  • Interfacing with clients and public agencies as needed.
  • Coordinating with team members to ensure proper and timely project execution.
  • Working in a flexible, team-oriented environment.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience in stormwater and hydraulic design, planning, and implementation on transportation projects.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with an Engineering in Training certification.
  • Experience with stormwater conveyance, flow control, water quality treatment, and low impact development BMPs.
  • Project experience with fish passage design, including H&H modeling, culvert design, stream restoration, and civil design.
  • Knowledge of Washington State stormwater design manuals: DOE SWMMWW, WSDOT HRM, WSDOT Hydraulic Manual, WDFW Crossing Guidelines.
  • Proficiency with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software: MGSFlood, WWHM, Stormshed 3G, HEC-RAS.
  • Experience with H&H calculations: conveyance sizing, basin hydrology, culvert sizing, scour calculations.
  • Experience creating construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Strong communication skills for client and team coordination.
  • High ethical standards and professional demeanor.

Additional Information

Physical Demands:

  • Primarily office-based work, with occasional field visits involving walking, standing, kneeling, or navigating uneven terrain.
  • May require lifting objects up to 15 lbs.
  • Travel to project sites or meetings, involving driving or flying.

Compensation:

The salary range is $120,000 - $150,000 annually, based on experience, education, and skills. Performance bonuses are also offered. Further details will be provided during the interview process.
