Job Description

KPFF is currently hiring an experienced Senior Water Resource Engineer to support major projects throughout the Pacific Northwest. This position will support transportation projects and associated hydraulic elements, primarily fish passage and stormwater design. The candidate should utilize their expertise in water resources engineering projects, including stormwater facilities design, surface water hydrology and hydraulic analysis, culvert and bridge hydraulics, stream and habitat restoration analysis, and project permitting coordination. The role involves performing engineering design and delivering high-quality products to clients.

Position Responsibilities:

This role involves working as part of a multi-disciplinary team with public sector clients across all phases of transportation projects. Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting engineering projects related to roadway and transit improvements, bicycle and pedestrian facilities, site development, fish passage, and ecological restoration.
  • Performing stormwater design, analysis, and reporting for infrastructure such as roads, bridges, and airports.
  • Providing detailed engineering calculations for stormwater and fish passage facilities.
  • Creating hydrologic and hydraulic models.
  • Designing water resources systems, including hydraulics for stream crossings, fish passage, and scour evaluation.
  • Applying local, state, and federal standards for fish passage and stormwater management.
  • Creating stormwater, stream, and conveyance designs, including grading, using AutoCAD Civil 3D with 3D surfaces and pipe networks.
  • Interfacing with clients and agencies as needed.
  • Coordinating with team members to ensure timely project delivery.
  • Working in a flexible, team-oriented environment.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience in stormwater and hydraulic design for transportation projects, including hydrologic and hydraulic modeling.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and an Engineering in Training certification.
  • Experience with stormwater conveyance, flow control, water quality BMPs, and low impact development.
  • Project experience with fish passage design, H&H modeling, culvert design, and stream restoration.
  • Knowledge of Washington State stormwater design manuals and guidelines.
  • Proficiency in hydrologic and hydraulic software such as MGSFlood, WWHM, Stormshed 3G, and HEC-RAS.
  • Experience with H&H calculations, including sizing and scour analysis.
  • Ability to produce construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Strong communication skills for client and team coordination.
  • High ethical standards and professional image.
Additional Information

Physical Demands:

  • Primarily office-based; may require field visits involving walking and navigating uneven terrain.
  • Occasional lifting of objects up to 15 lbs.
  • Travel to project sites or meetings may be required.

Compensation:

The salary range is $120,000 - $150,000 annually, based on experience and skills. We also offer performance bonuses and comprehensive benefits including:
