We have an immediate need for a Senior Water Resources Engineer for our Edison, NJ office.

We are seeking a Senior Water Resources Engineer to play a key role in expanding and strengthening our transportation and infrastructure practice in our Edison, NJ office. This position offers the opportunity to help build and lead our in-house water resources capabilities in support of bridge, roadway, and resiliency-focused projects throughout NJ and NY, particularly for NJDOT, NJTA, NYSDOT, and NYSDEC clients.

This is a strategic growth position. We are looking for an experienced Water Resource professional who is interested in helping shape a scalable practice — leading technical efforts, supporting pursuits, mentoring staff, and integrating hydraulic design with structural and civil engineering disciplines.

The successful candidate will collaborate closely with bridge and roadway engineers to deliver integrated, permit-ready, and constructible solutions from planning and concept development through final design and construction.

Come join our team! We are looking to build services and capabilities through the growth of our key asset- our staff. Ranked among the nation's top A/E firms by Engineering News-Record, LiRo-Hill provides construction management, engineering, environmental, architectural, and program management solutions. You can become part of an organization that has a strong track record and is looking to strengthen relationships and capabilities to continue being a trusted resource for our clients in the public and private sector. We are proud to be known as a "Integrated Construction, Design and Technology Solutions" firm and we have delivered on that label time and again.

Recently, Global Infrastructure Solutions Inc. (GISI), the parent company of The LiRo Group and Hill International, Inc. consolidated a portion of the highly experienced staff of both LiRo and Hill in the Northeast to create a larger, more efficient, and cost-effective team to serve clients. LiRo-Hill is a 1100-person firm with offices in NYC, Long Island, Buffalo, Rochester, Boston and Edison, NJ.

Responsibilities
  • Lead hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) analyses for bridge, culvert, and roadway projects
  • Perform watershed modeling, rainfall-runoff modeling, and peak flow analysis using HEC-HMS, HydroCAD, or similar tools
  • Develop and review HEC-RAS models (1D and/or 2D) for floodplain and open channel analysis
  • Conduct bridge hydraulic evaluations, including scour analysis, waterway adequacy studies, and overtopping analysis
  • Evaluate flood risk, floodplain impacts, and resiliency strategies considering sea level rise and climate change projections
  • Prepare drainage reports and supporting documentation in compliance with NJ/NY Best Management Practices (BMPs) including Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP or SPPP) for NJDOT, NJDEP, NYSDOT, and NYSDEC submissions
  • Support flood hazard area and floodplain permitting efforts
  • Coordinate closely with structural and civil engineers to align hydraulic modeling with bridge sizing, roadway profiles, and drainage design
  • Lead drainage and stormwater management system design including storm sewer networks, culverts, detention/retention basins, green infrastructure, and outfall structures
  • Participate in site visits and field investigations to document hydraulic conditions
  • Provide technical support during construction administration
  • Contribute to proposal efforts, qualifications packages, and business development initiatives to strengthen the firm’s H&H resume
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (Water Resources or related focus preferred)
  • 8–25 years of relevant water resource experience, including DOT project exposure
  • NJ PE required; NY PE strongly preferred or ability to obtain
  • Demonstrated experience with NJDOT, NJDEP, NYSDOT, and/or NYSDEC standards and permitting processes. Specifically experience in NJDEP Flood Hazard Control Act and Stormwater Management Regulations.
  • Proficiency with HEC-RAS required; experience with HEC-HMS, HydroCAD, PondPack and/or StormCAD preferred
  • Bridge hydraulic and scour analysis experience required
  • Experience preparing technical hydraulic reports for agency review
  • Working knowledge of drainage system design and stormwater management
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments, mentor junior staff and work as part of a team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
