Job summary

The Florida Department of Corrections in Tallahassee seeks a Licensed Professional Engineer to lead the Wastewater Engineering Department. You will oversee multi-million-dollar capital projects, ensure compliance with state and federal clean water mandates, and provide technical guidance across facilities statewide.

Requirements include FL PE licensure, a Civil/Environmental/Mechanical/Chemical degree, 5+ years of engineering experience with at least 2 as a Florida-registered PE, and experience

Qualifications

• :Must be a registered Florida Professional Engineer (PE).
• :Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Civil, Environmental, Chemical, or Mechanical preferred).
• :At least five years of engineering experience, two as a Florida-registered PE.
• :Experience in wastewater collection, treatment, and/or effluent disposal design, construction, operation, and permitting.
• :Willingness to travel statewide and report to Central Office in Tallahassee.

Responsibilities

• Reviews operating data, DMRs, and lab results with wastewater treatment staff; troubleshoots issues and recommends corrective actions for permit compliance.
• Provides technical guidance and on-site training to operators on process control, plant operation, maintenance, and regulatory requirements.
• Designs, evaluates, and optimizes wastewater treatment processes and disposal systems, focusing on efficiency and cost reduction.
• Prepares and maintains permit applications, ensures regulatory compliance with wastewater, water treatment plant and fuel storage, as well as reviews engineering plans and reports for submittals.
• Conducts site inspections, develops emergency procedures, oversees contractor work, and coordinates with staff and agencies on technical matters.
