Job summary

HDR is seeking a Wastewater Professional Engineer to join our Madison/Milwaukee area teams. You will lead municipal and industrial wastewater design projects, coordinating across disciplines to deliver compliant, high-quality solutions that protect public health and the environment.

You will mentor junior engineers and collaborate with local governments and facilities while advancing innovative treatment and water quality strategies.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Civil, Environmental, Chemical, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of municipal wastewater planning and design experience.
  • Professional Engineer license (PE/P.Eng) required for the position's location.
  • Strong background in water distribution system design and hydraulic modeling.
  • Experience with municipal wastewater projects and large multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate wastewater design team through schematic design and documents.
  • Lead reviews with agencies to ensure code compliance.
  • Coordinate workload to meet project schedules.
  • Conduct site work sessions with Project Manager and other disciplines.
  • Review process documents for conflicts and ensure alignment across disciplines.
  • Prepare specifications, select treatment equipment and systems.
  • Assist disciplines with addenda, RFIs, CPRs, change orders; incorporate changes into docs.
  • Provide construction contract administration as needed.
  • Perform QA/QC on teammates' work as required.
  • Execute additional duties as assigned.

In the role of Wastewater Professional Engineer, we'll count on you to:
  • Coordinate the work of the wastewater design team through the schematic design development and contract document phase of a project
  • Establish meetings and participate in reviews with various governing agencies for code compliance
  • Coordinate workload to complete the document on schedule
  • Conduct work sessions at the project site in conjunction with the Project Manager and other disciplines
  • Review process mechanical documents for areas of conflict with all disciplines
  • Write and edit process mechanical specifications, select equipment, treatment systems, and devices
  • Coordinate with and assist affected disciplines with addenda, RFIs, CPRs and change orders, and take responsibility to incorporate agreed-upon changes into the project documents
  • Provide construction contract administration as needed
  • Conduct QA/QC on the work of other Wastewater Process Mechanical Project Engineers, Project Coordinators or CAD Technicians as needed
  • Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Civil, Environmental, Chemical, or related Engineering field
  • 10+ years of experience with municipal or industrial wastewater treatment and treatment process design
  • Experience working on municipal wastewater projects
  • Experience working on food and beverage, manufacturing, life sciences, semiconductor, data center, or other industrial wastewater projects
  • Experience working on large multidisciplinary wastewater projects
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent field
  • A minimum of 10 years experience with Municipal Water and Wastewater Systems Planning and Design
  • Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
  • Strong technical background and experience in designing water distribution systems
  • Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, MicroStation and hydraulic modeling software
  • Project Engineering and Project Management experience is necessary
