Job summary

Hohmann & Barnard, Inc. in Alabama is seeking a Shipping and Receiving Manager to lead warehouse, shipping, receiving, and transportation operations. You will drive safe, efficient, and cost-effective handling of materials and finished goods while optimizing processes and staffing.

You will oversee labor, schedules, layouts, and adherence to quality and regulatory standards, partnering with customers, carriers, and cross-functional teams to improve delivery performance and inventory accuracy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred; an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
• Five or more years of progressive experience supervising warehouse, shipping, receiving, or transportation operations.
• Strong knowledge of warehouse management, inventory control, distribution processes, and operational best practices.
• Experience managing LTL, flatbed, full-truckload, and multi-stop transportation requirements.
• Proficiency with transportation management systems, warehouse management systems, and related shipping, tracking, and reporting tools.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, motivate, and hold teams accountable for safety, quality, service, productivity, and cost performance.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, basic statistics, operational reporting, and warehouse and transportation KPIs.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE).
• You must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development, execution, and continuous improvement of best-in-class warehouse, shipping, receiving, and transportation services.
• Strategically manage shipping and receiving operations in alignment with policies and service expectations.
• Provide leadership, direction, coaching, and performance oversight for all shipping and receiving personnel.
• Develop work schedules, assign resources, establish priorities, and evaluate results.
• Design and maintain effective warehouse layouts and material-flow processes.
• Oversee stock control and inventory reconciliation with data-management systems.
• Plan and coordinate transportation activities to meet delivery, cost, and service needs.
• Negotiate freight rates, contracts, and service terms with carriers and 3PLs.
• Monitor carrier performance and implement corrective actions to improve reliability and cost control.
• Maintain KPIs and reporting on inbound/outbound status, freight utilization, and service performance.
• Travel approximately 10% to support company facilities and meetings.
