Job summary

Tanium Inc. is seeking a Senior Security Engineer for Vulnerability Research to join the R&D Security team. This role is remote in the US and focuses on hunting hard-to-find vulnerabilities, driving remediation, and shaping secure software practices across Tanium's products and cloud services.

You will lead vulnerability discovery efforts, triage findings, and provide actionable guidance for patching. Ideal candidates have 5+ years of security experience, strong web/native security knowledge,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
• 5+ years in security; 7+ preferred.
• Strong understanding of web and native application security.
• Hands-on vulnerability research via source code review, manual testing, or fuzzing.
• Ability to assess vulnerability severity and business impact.
• Experience with building secure code processes.

Responsibilities

• Decide attack surfaces and bug classes to pursue and build capabilities to discover new vulnerabilities.
• Triage newly discovered vulnerabilities quickly; rank by exploitability and impact.
• Provide high-quality patch guidance and pull requests alongside reports.
• Maintain a threat model of Tanium software to steer research projects.
• Evaluate frontier AI capabilities; build agentic workflows that work.
• Develop and maintain tooling for vulnerability research, including AI skills, fuzzing harnesses, and analyzers.
• Shorten detection-to-remediation time by reducing false positives and improving finding quality.
• Perform source code review and targeted security assessments of high-risk components.
