Job summary

Synchrony is seeking a VP-level Product Security Architect to provide enterprise-level security leadership across its application and SaaS ecosystem. This role operates at L13 scope—defining standards and driving adoption at scale while partnering with product and engineering to embed security into strategy.

The VP will direct an Application Security Blueprint and influence outcomes across portfolios, enabling secure-by-design software that is resilient and compliant.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in security architecture with focus on application security.
• Enterprise influence: set standards and drive cross-team adoption.
• Strong fundamentals in authentication, cryptography, secrets management, and secure logging.
• Proven threat modeling experience and architecture artifacts.
• Knowledge of API security and OWASP API risks; translate to patterns.
• Excellent communication to engineers and senior leaders; solid architecture docs.
• Experience embedding security into product planning and roadmaps.
• SaaS security experience including SSO/federation and data isolation.
• Experience with service-to-service security patterns and runbooks.
• DevSecOps, CI/CD security controls, and software supply chain security.
• Regulated environments mapping to policies; certifications preferred; travel as needed.

Responsibilities

• Lead executive-level Product Security Architecture function and multi-year roadmap.
• Set architecture direction aligned with technology strategy, risk, and compliance.
• Own and evolve the Application Security Blueprint with guardrails.
• Partner with product and engineering to embed security into delivery.
• Govern architecture reviews, enable remediation plans, and manage exceptions.
• Drive threat modeling at scale; define trust boundaries and data flows.
• Define and standardize API security architectures and controls.
• Develop security patterns for distributed systems and cloud-native apps.
• Report security maturity metrics to executive leadership.
• Coach and develop security architects; nurture a security-first culture.
