Job summary

Our client, a national commercial bank and CRE lender, seeks a Director/SVP of Portfolio Management to lead a growing CRE portfolio across multifamily, hotel, industrial, retail and office. The role includes building a 3–4 person team, owning complex credits, and shaping a scaling portfolio management function.

The position offers a hybrid work schedule, high visibility with senior leadership, and a base+bonus compensation package as the business scales.

Qualifications

• Minimum 8+ years in CRE lending, credit, or portfolio management.
• Direct experience managing a performing CRE portfolio.
• Experience coaching or managing junior staff.
• Strong understanding of CRE credit, property performance, and lender remedies.
• Ability to translate portfolio trends into underwriting strategy.
• Curiosity about data, automation, and process improvement.

Responsibilities

• Lead nationwide portfolio of performing CRE loans with proactive monitoring.
• Evaluate property performance, cash flow, and covenants; present risk ratings to senior management.
• Negotiate modifications, extensions, and waivers; support workouts as needed.
• Coach and develop 3–4 portfolio managers; ensure high-quality output.
• Partner with originations, underwriting, and servicing; escalate material issues.
