Job summary

American Academy of Pediatrics in Washington, DC is seeking a Senior Vice President, Advocacy to lead coordination of meetings with legislators, prepare agendas, and support the advocacy program. The role involves drafting correspondence, managing communications, and supporting the COFGA and Advocacy Conference planning.

The position requires a bachelor’s degree in communications, political science or related field and at least one year of administrative experience; familiarity with advocacy

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in communications, political science, or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Experience drafting correspondence and coordinating meetings.
• Experience in legislative or advocacy environments preferred, especially child health policy.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate scheduling of meetings with legislators for AAP members.
• Prepare agendas and provide audio/visual support for meetings.
• Draft invitations and general correspondence letters.
• Support legislative team with sign-on letters and advocacy reports.
• Proofread and copy edit advocacy letters, testimony, reports or other documents.
• Monitor federal advocacy email and draft responses; escalate advanced requests.
• Code emails to Capitol Hill offices and manage advocacy communications.
• Support weekly Capital Check Up newsletter to members.
• Maintain SharePoint site and organize materials.
• Assist in COFGA and Advocacy Conference planning; take minutes as requested.
• Assist in internship program processes.
• Prepare presentations and speeches for senior advocacy staff.
• Maintain familiarity with AAP policies and priorities.
• Manage opt-in/opt-out lists for federal advocacy email campaigns.
• Coordinate production of meeting materials.
• Provide admin support to SVP, Advocacy; cover reception when needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
