Job summary

The American College of Physicians (ACP) is seeking a Senior Associate, Lobbyist in Washington, DC to advocate ACP's positions with members of Congress and staff, and to help develop policy options and strategies with Congress. This hybrid role requires in-office presence at least two days per week.

The candidate will work with ACP Services PAC staff to recommend contributions based on Board-approved criteria, and will coordinate with internal teams to advance ACP's health policy priorities

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required, preferably in political science or related field.
• Graduate degree preferred.
• A minimum of five years' experience as congressional staff or in a government affairs role for a health-related association, or other comparable and relevant experience.
• A comprehensive understanding of complex health issues.
• Demonstrated record of success with Congress.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills essential to interact effectively with a variety of audiences including members of Congress, congressional committees, members, and all levels of College staff.

Responsibilities

• Provides legislative and political advice that should be considered in the development of policy and action options by ACP.
• Maintains an excellent understanding of all ACP policies and communicates such policies to congressional staff and Members of Congress through frequent Congressional engagement and written communications.
• Establishes ongoing relationships with congressional staff for key health committees and the staff, particularly the House Energy and Commerce, for individual members who serve on those committees.
• Assists in the development of testimony and other communications to Congress as necessary to advocate ACP positions and looks for opportunities for ACP’s governance to testify before Congress.
• Articulates ACP policy and recommendations in coalitions established to encourage joint actions on issues of common concern.
• Briefs ACP leaders on policy and responds to specific member inquiries. Make presentations on federal policy matters to ACP committees, chapters, Annual Session, and meetings of other organizations. Assists ACP Services in conducting its fly-ins and lobby days.
• Provides reports to management staff and other colleagues on significant legislative and political developments on ACP issues.
• Attends fundraisers and other external activities in support of ACP Services PAC activities. May deliver PAC contributions to candidates.
• Help coordinate activities of College interns in DC office.

The Governmental Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) Division of the American College of Physicians (ACP) is seeking a candidate for the position of Senior Associate, Lobbyist for the Legislative Affairs department.ACP, a national organization of internal medicine physicians with headquarters in Philadelphia, is the largest medical specialty organization and the second-largest physician group in the United States.

The Senior Associate, Lobbyist advocates ACP's positions with members of Congress and their staff and assists in the development of policy options and strategies to achieve ACP's stated goals and objectives with Congress. They will consult with the ACP Services PAC staff and consultants to recommend contributions to various political candidates based on set criteria approved by the ACP Services PAC Board of Directors.This is a hybrid role in Washington DC with at leasttwo days in the office per week required.
