Job summary

GCyber is seeking a Senior Virtualization Engineer to lead the design, administration, and optimization of the enterprise virtualization platform for a federal client at Ft. Meade. You will mentor engineers, drive modernization, and ensure highly available infrastructure across multiple locations.

The role requires active TS/SCI clearance and DoD 8140/8570 IAT II certification, with extensive VMware vSphere, Horizon, and vSAN experience. Onsite work at Ft. Meade is required.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in enterprise IT infrastructure including virtualization, servers, storage, and networking.
• Experience designing, implementing, and supporting highly available virtualization platforms in DoD environments.
• Active TS/SCI security clearance and DoD 8570/8140 IAT Level II certification.
• Experience administering VMware vSphere, Horizon, and vSAN.
• Proficient in PowerShell/PowerCLI automation and scripting.
• Strong networking knowledge and ability to integrate with virtualization platforms.
• Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.

Position Overview

GCyber is seeking a Senior Virtualization Engineer to support the enterprise virtualization environment supporting a mission-critical federal customer in Ft. Meade. This role serves as the technical lead responsible for the design, administration, optimization, security, and lifecycle management of the virtualization platform while leading modernization initiatives, supporting data center operations, and mentoring fellow engineers.

You will partner closely with systems, storage, networking, and cybersecurity teams to deliver highly available, resilient infrastructure supporting enterprise operations across multiple geographic locations.

Due to the classified nature of the work, this position is located full time onsite at Ft. Meade without the possibility for remote work arrangements.

What You Will Do

• Own the health, performance, security, and lifecycle management of the enterprise virtualization environment.
• Design, implement, administer, and optimize VMware virtualization and virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) environments
• Build and maintain highly available virtualization clusters supporting mission-critical workloads.
• Lead infrastructure modernization, hardware refreshes, platform upgrades, and migration efforts with minimal operational impact.
• Install, configure, integrate, and support enterprise server hardware and virtualization infrastructure.
• Develop testing strategies, validate infrastructure changes, and document implementation results.
• Troubleshoot complex virtualization, storage, networking, and VDI issues across enterprise environments.
• Support enterprise operations spanning multiple geographic locations and networks.
• Collaborate with infrastructure, networking, storage, and cybersecurity teams to deliver integrated enterprise solutions.
• Provide technical leadership, mentor junior engineers, and establish virtualization engineering best practices.
• Support or lead special projects and strategic initiatives that improve reliability, scalability, automation, and operational efficiency.

Required Qualifications

• Active TS/SCI Security Clearance.
• Current DoD 8140/8570 IAT Level II certification.
• 7+ years of experience supporting enterprise IT infrastructure, including virtualization, servers, storage, and networking.
• Experience designing, implementing, and supporting highly available virtualization platforms in a Department of War environment
• Extensive experience administering VMware vSphere and VMware Horizon environments.
• Experience with VMware vSAN.
• Experience with PowerShell or PowerCLI automation.
• Experience troubleshooting virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) and virtual machine performance issues.
• Strong understanding of enterprise networking concepts and their integration with virtualization platforms.
• Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills.
