Job summary

Referment is seeking a Senior Virtualization and Storage Engineer to own production platforms and guide the next generation through migrations and PoC work. This role blends operational responsibility with long-range design across virtualization, storage, and automation.

You will lead complex migrations, build tooling for reliability and efficiency, and provide technical direction while remaining hands-on in a fast-paced, enterprise environment.

Qualifications

• At least ten years of hands-on experience with production server virtualization.
• Deep expertise in VMware, Hyper-V or a KVM-based platform.
• Enterprise storage and SAN experience with storage protocols and at least one software-defined storage platform.
• Python and PowerShell programming experience.
• Strong independent delivery, organization and communication skills.
• A computer science or related technical degree is preferred.

Referment is working with a global investment and technology organisation to hire a Senior Virtualization and Storage Engineer. This senior individual-contributor role will own mature production platforms while shaping their next generation through evaluation, proof-of-concept work and carefully planned migration.

You’ll combine operational responsibility with long-range technical design, working across virtualization, enterprise storage and automation. The opportunity is particularly suited to an engineer who can keep critical services reliable while leading complex platform evolution.

The Role

• Own and maintain production virtualization platforms and storage solutions, focusing on availability, performance and resource efficiency.
• Research alternative technologies, run proofs of concept and define practical migration paths.
• Build automation and tooling that improves reliability, scalability and operational efficiency.
• Plan and execute virtualization and storage migrations with cross-functional teams.
• Provide technical direction on large, complex initiatives while remaining hands-on.

What We're Looking For

• At least ten years of hands-on experience building and supporting server virtualization in production.
• Deep expertise in VMware, Hyper-V or a KVM-based platform; experience across more than one is valuable.
• Enterprise storage and SAN experience, including storage protocols and at least one software-defined storage platform.
• Python and PowerShell programming experience.
• The judgement to evaluate platform change driven by hardware, cost or vendor considerations.
• Strong communication, organisation and independent delivery skills.

A computer science or related technical degree is preferred rather than essential. This could suit a senior virtualization, storage, platform or infrastructure engineer with a record of modernising business-critical environments.
