The Opportunity
A premier global financial services organization is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to join its Enterprise Windows Systems team. This group is responsible for core enterprise server infrastructure, virtualization, and cloud platforms across a large, distributed global network.
In this role, you will act as a senior technical individual contributor and decision-maker. You will take direct ownership of a large-scale hypervisor refresh and modernization project supporting a regulated, multi-datacenter environment. This position blends architecture, engineering, and hands‑on migration execution with a strategic, product-management mindset.
Key Responsibilities
- Virtualization Architecture & Engineering: Lead a large-scale hypervisor refresh project across all layers, including cluster builds, architecture design, and virtual machine migrations.
- Estate Management: Oversee a large private cloud virtual estate across multiple datacenters, with future planning to scale workloads into public cloud providers.
- Performance & Capacity Planning: Manage capacity and performance engineering across Hyperconverged Infrastructure (HCI), 3-tier deployments, and hosted Kubernetes solutions.
- Security & Automation: Maintain security baselines (such as CIS), develop PowerShell or Ansible automation scripts to reduce operational toil, and create robust BAU runbooks.
- Cross-Functional Operations: Collaborate with the broader global infrastructure team on Windows Server management, Active Directory, and complex cross-team technical incidents.
Your Profile
- Experience: 5+ years in enterprise systems engineering with deep virtualization experience (Nutanix, VMware, or Hyper-V) in environments with 100+ hosts or 1,000+ VMs.
- Migration Expertise: Proven track record planning and executing large-scale hypervisor migrations and hardware sizing (Dell, HP, or Supermicro).
- Technical Depth: Strong grasp of VM performance analysis (CPU/memory right-sizing), SAN/storage fundamentals, and infrastructure scripting (PowerShell).
- Regulated Environments: Experience operating within multi‑entity, highly regulated environments requiring strict change management controls (e.g., SOX compliance, ServiceNow).
- Innovation Mindset: A proactive interest in leveraging automation and emerging AI tooling to streamline operational efficiency and improve engineering output.
Highly Desirable Skills
- Experience with Kubernetes on hypervisors (such as Nutanix Kubernetes Services or Tanzu).
- Exposure to virtual networking/micro‑segmentation products (Nutanix Flow or NSX).
- Familiarity with hybrid Windows Server, Active Directory, and M365 infrastructure management.
