Job summary

The New York Times Company is seeking a Senior Video Journalist to focus on original reporting, producing and editing enterprise video journalism. You will work with autonomy to push storylines beyond what appears in the Times, innovating and collaborating to produce impactful digital video.

Based in New York, the role requires four days a week in the office with some remote flexibility per departmental guidance.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of journalism experience with multimedia storytelling, video producing and editing.
  • Experience producing shoots and interviewing experts on camera.
  • Experience creating original videos with audio, video, images, graphics and text.
  • Excellent news judgment and reporting skills, ability to synthesize investigations into engaging video.
  • Video editing skills with Adobe Premiere.
  • Proficiency in using photo, video, audio, graphics and animation in storytelling.

Times Opinion is hiring a senior video journalist. You will focus on original reporting, producing and editing of our enterprise video journalism.

You have extensive journalism experience and are passionate about making videos that live at the intersection of news, opinion and documentary film. You have an extensive track record of pitching, producing and editing timely, visual, impact-driven digital video.

You will work with a high degree of autonomy in developing and pushing story lines beyond what is already in the pages of the Times. You are eager to innovate, thrive on collaboration and have strong news judgment.

You're a self-starter who can dig deep and craft nuanced storytelling, but you're equally excited to jump on breaking news. You can spot trends, generate scoops and have a track record of juggling multiple projects at once.

This position is based in New York and requires four days a week in the office. There may be some flexibility to work remotely per your departmental guidance.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with video leaders and other Opinion writers to ensure our work follows newsroom standards.
  • Must be able to handle newsroom deadlines and juggle multiple projects.
  • Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.
  • You will report to a Senior Producer.
Basic Qualifications
  • 8+ years of journalism experience, including multimedia storytelling, video producing and editing, production experience at a major news organization or production company.
  • Experience producing shoots and interviewing experts on camera.
  • Experience creating original videos that incorporate audio, video, still images, graphics and text.
  • Excellent news judgment and reporting skills, with a proven ability to work with colleagues and other reporters to synthesize newsgathering and/or investigations into a tight, informative and engaging video.
  • Video editing skills with Adobe Premiere.
  • Facility in using photo, video, audio, graphics and animation in storytelling.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with open source reporting.
  • Experience working collaboratively with members of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Available to work a flexible schedule.

Additional Compensation And Benefits

For roles in the U.S., dependent on your role, you may be eligible for variable pay, such as an annual bonus and restricted stock. Benefits may include medical, dental and vision benefits, Flexible Spending Accounts (F.S.A.s), a company-matching 401(k) plan, employee stock purchase plan, paid vacation, paid sick days, paid parental leave, tuition reimbursement and professional development programs.

The annual base pay range for this role is between: $124,979.94 - $152,000 USD
