Senior Vice President, Finance

Reports To : President of Northwood Hospitality

The new SVP of Finance will be a trusted advisor to Northwood Hospitalitys senior management team and Northwood Investors investment team. The individual will draw on a blend of hospitality industry experience, a broad knowledge of different areas of finance, and experience leading a high-performing team.

IDEAL EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum of 15 years overall business experience with a progression of finance positions that include a range of accounting, control, and FP&A roles.
  • Knowledge of hotel accounting practices and systems is important, as is strong FP&A skills and a deep understanding of hotel budgeting, forecasting, and industry-specific metrics.

Hospitality Experience

  • Hospitality experience is required, preferably some of which will have been in an entrepreneurial setting. Experience working for a hotel management company is most relevant. The ideal candidate will have prior experience as a finance director at a property and more recent experience in a regional or corporate setting, overseeing a portfolio of hotels.

M&A Experience

  • Experience or involvement with underwriting new deals is additive.

CRITICAL LEADERSHIP CAPABILITIES

  • Communicates long-term direction and collaborates with the team on how to reach it.
  • Delegates objectives to the whole team with clear and explicit intent; knows the precise level of challenge and how individual team members will handle it.
  • Sets up forums or practices to reinforce independent and open communication among the team members.
  • The individual will excel at developing staff, recognizing talent, promoting, and stretching to build future leadership. The individual will be able to attract high-caliber talent and develop them as future leaders.

Driving Financial Results

  • Identify new processes and / or systems to improve efficiencies and productivity.
  • Benchmark its performance against industry standards and best practices.
  • Holds people accountable for their commitments, clarifying and outlining the ramifications of failure in advance.

Strategic Partnership

  • Segments the total market covered in its own area into categories of customers or clients.
  • Adopts a long-term perspective about the business (customer segments and the external environment). Develops hypotheses or alternative scenarios of how critical issues will play out beyond the year and uses these to set challenging goals with a future payoff or outcomes.
  • Translates business goals into well-defined performance plans for his / her own organization and communicates the link between current activities and goals.
  • Thinks beyond annual goals.

Qualifications

  • A bachelors degree in a relevant field, such as accounting or finance, is required, and an MBA and / or CPA are preferred.
  • At least 15 years of experience, 7+ years of demonstrated Finance, Accounting, and FP&A leadership, preferably within a hospitality company.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative management style.
  • Deep understanding of financial analysis and reporting, key business metrics, forecasting, and annual budgeting.
  • Demonstrates the ability to seek input, make connections, and recognize patterns that lead to effective decision-making and action.
  • Demonstrates the ability and instinct to identify and capitalize on a wide variety of opportunities to grow earnings and the business.
  • Must be results-oriented and demonstrate the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to travel at least 50%
  • Experience building, mentoring, and leading a team of 8-10 colleagues is critical.

Salary range : $300,000 - $320,000 + bonus potential

Location : Home Office, Englewood, CO
