Job summary

Mechanical Dynamics and Analysis LLC is seeking a Vibration Specialist/Balance Engineer to diagnose and balance turbomachinery, including steam and gas turbines. The role requires strong rotordynamics knowledge, field diagnostics, and the ability to lead technical discussions with customers.

The candidate will travel up to 80% and will prepare reports, perform testing, and provide actionable maintenance recommendations, ensuring safety and compliance with contractual commitments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college
• Minimum 5 years of machinery diagnostics field experience including vibration and rotordynamic analysis, testing, balancing, alignment, reliability assessment, and maintenance of large steam and/or gas turbine generators.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose machinery problems based on vibration data, test data, performance data, operational data, mechanical design data, and customer communications.
• Perform mechanical troubleshooting, condition assessment, and corrective action recommendations including balancing as necessary for customer rotating equipment assets.
• Convey knowledge of steam turbine and gas turbine operation, components, and functions, and related auxiliary systems.
• Provide leadership, technical direction, and assistance to the customer and field personnel in diagnostic evaluation and long-term maintenance of rotating machinery.
• Demonstrate strong understanding of rotordynamics, vibration diagnostics, and failure modes of rotating machinery.
• Prepare timely service reports, invoicing packages, and other administrative requirements.
• Travel up to 80%, as required; work significant overtime as needed.
• Complete documentation of findings, recommendations, and corrective actions.
• Communicate professionally with customers and team members.
• Adhere to safety policies and understand contractual commitments.
