Overview
Senior Vibration Analysis Engineer – Full-time. The role involves analyzing the mechanical performance of reactor core components under various loading conditions and sources of vibration, such as acoustic-induced, mechanical-induced, and flow-induced effects. The position collaborates with engineers focused on developing the design of next-generation advanced nuclear reactors. This role includes performing vibration analyses using classical tools and finite element analysis (FEA) software, working with cross-functional teams on static and dynamic analyses, and establishing optimal nuclear component designs that meet functional and safety requirements.
Responsibilities
- Perform vibration analyses of reactor core components using classical tools (e.g., Mathcad) and FEA software (e.g., ANSYS).
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to conduct static and dynamic analyses using linear and non-linear approaches with FEA.
- Work with interdisciplinary teams to establish and maintain documentation of analysis results and design solutions.
- Perform peer reviews to maintain quality standards per the engineering quality assurance plan.
- Mentor engineers and team members to build a skilled and confident team.
- Serve as a technical point of contact for various focus tasks.
Required Qualifications
- B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university. Aerospace, Nuclear, and Civil Engineering degrees are also considered.
- Minimum of 10+ years of related experience with a B.S. degree, 6+ years with an M.S. degree, or 3+ years with a Ph.D. degree.
- Proficient in FEA for seismic, acoustic, vibration, and mechanical structures.
- Strong experience with commercial mechanical analysis/modeling tools, with emphasis on ANSYS and SolidWorks.
- Solid understanding of failure mechanisms, fracture mechanics, and fatigue failure.
- Hands-on experience in vibration (flow-induced, acoustic, mechanical) and seismic analysis of equipment or components.
- Working experience with pressure equipment design codes and standards such as ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section III, Div. 1 and 5, Section VIII Div. 2; Process Piping analysis codes B31.1 and B31.3 is highly desirable.
- Experience with conceptual design and sizing for equipment and structural components through basic calculation and using Mathcad.
- Strong communication skills and collaborative teamwork.
- High degree of trust, integrity, open communication, and respect to foster teamwork.
Preferred Qualifications
- Depth of knowledge on structural component analysis under vibration (acoustic, flow-induced, mechanical).
- Advanced finite element analysis of reactor components using ANSYS Workbench and/or APDL.
- Experience implementing and interpreting ASME Boiler Pressure Vessel Code Section III and/or Section VIII.
- Understanding of seismic design code requirements (ASCE 4, ASCE 43).
- Programming knowledge in Python; familiarity with Mathcad.
- Three or more years of nuclear industry experience.
- Mentor and collaborate with cross-functional teams to perform static and dynamic analyses.
- Maintain documentation of analysis results and design solutions; participate in engineering QA processes.
- Act as a technical contact for focus tasks.
