Job summary

Atoms in San Francisco is seeking a Staff Engineering Technician to own vehicle build standards, design fixtures and kitted assemblies, and manage fleet configuration control. You will serve as the final escalation for cross-disciplinary vehicle failures and act as the technical voice into hardware design.

This full-time, in-person role is based in SF, with a base salary range of $140,000-$200,000 per year and potential equity.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of hands-on experience in vehicle integration, prototype build, or electromechanical systems.
• Demonstrated ownership of a build process and the ability to lead complex debug work.
• Deep wiring harness and vehicle electrical expertise, including harness architecture and grounding schemes.
• Experience owning configuration control across a fleet or family of prototypes.
• Ability to lead challenging debugging independently and escalate when needed.
• Track record of raising skill levels through training and written procedures.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and stay organized.
• Physical requirement to lift up to 50 lbs and work long hours in a shop environment.

Responsibilities

• Own the vehicle build standard, including process, workmanship criteria, checklists, and sign-off.
• Design and build fixtures, jigs, and kitted assemblies to make builds repeatable.
• Own fleet configuration control and hardware revision tracking.
• Serve as final escalation on cross-disciplinary vehicle failures across mechanical, electrical, and firmware layers.
• Drive design-for-manufacturability and design-for-serviceability changes with hardware and autonomy engineering.
• Plan retrofit campaigns, including tooling, parts, and downtime.
• Set training paths and workmanship standards for technicians.
• Track build time and defect rates and act on them.
• Represent shop constraints in program planning.
• Keep the shop space organized where production parts are assembled.
