Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking an automotive technician to perform repairs on diesel and gas trucks, cars and equipment in a large garage setting in South Carolina.

The role involves diagnosing electrical/hydraulic systems, engine and transmission work, and welding. You will also handle field service calls and maintain shop safety. A minimum of 1.5 years of related experience is required, along with a valid driver's license and within six months obtain Class A CDL.

Qualifications

• 1.5 years of work experience involving independent automotive area duties.
• High school automotive technology coursework or equivalent may substitute for six months of experience.
• Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license and obtain Class A CDL within six months.

Responsibilities

• Perform skilled mechanical repairs and maintenance to motors, transmissions, brakes, cooling and electrical systems on equipment and vehicles.
• Diagnose and repair electrical and hydraulic systems to ensure proper operations of trucks, cars, and equipment.
• Perform welding and acetylene welding for repairs or part modifications; conduct field service calls; maintain shop safety and cleanliness; adhere to hazardous waste storage and disposal rules.
